what do you get when you cross the Killers with Green Day?

Emo kids who can't rationalise their late-adolescent love of Bruce Springsteen with their dad fucking them to "Candy's Room".

Come on Dalen, you know better than this.

I did.
But I am a scanner, more than a reader, I guess. So I miss a lot.

Maybe that's why I re-post so often.

I've got it uploading right now, PopDale - this album only made like 10 people's top 5s of 08.

Good idea for a spin today.

Enjoy. This is a little off kilter on first listen but it grew on me like kudzu.

Yeah, let's defer to Mick with his incredible insight and taste.

I like this a good bit. The lead guitar player gets on my nerves a little when he over uses the octive lead on too much stuff.

But yeah, I like Springsteen, so I like this.

i saw them a couple weeks ago. i wasn't really impressed. they were pretty light. the record is a much fuller sound. but then they cancelled the next night's show due to illness, so i guess i can give them the benefit of the doubt.

what kinda annoyed me is about halfway through the set, the singer ran down a list of every time they've played here and it was like the chris farley show. "was anyone here at that show we played with [some band i've never heard of]? man, that was an awesome night. how about that show we did with a little band called rise against? yeah, man, that show was great." and this went on and on. people ate it up.

Yeah, its a little same-y at times and let's be honest with ourselves: comparing it to Bruce is really a kick in the nuts of the Boss.

But on the whole, I enjoy.

They definitely ASPIRE and APE the Boss (and Tom Petty, and a lot of what we think as classic jangle/guitar rock) but they don't compare to the Boss. Two totally different things, but this album is really fucking good.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not comparing it to Bruce. I'm just saying that you cannot listen to it without thinking about the similarities.

But really the story lyrics and the fucking spot on reverb on the vocals is where that ends.

sure they ape bruce blah blah blah. but they do it better than anyone else. their shit is so fucking fun and they're the only imitators who seem to approach some of the high levels. just totally bombastic, over the top and really awesome to sing along to.

Funny, yes. But Rads (and Mick, obvs) is still wrong on this one.

Going to see them with the Heartless Bastards on my birthday.
Can't. Fucking. Wait.

I liked the album, but there's definitely a modern rock*-ish feel to their overall sound that I could live without.

*is that still a thing?
