Glasvegas supposedly bailed - something about the singer being in the hospital.

OK. 4 songs in and I can already say MBV is the performance of the weekend. Unbelievably good.

Bob Mould
MBV
Yeah yeah yeahs
Leonard Cohen
DBTs
Hold Steady
Fucked Up
Crookers
Okkervil River
Ida Maria

All crazy good.

Morrissey sucked so much ass that he made me want to vomit my meat-filled belly, but didn't.

He's starting to veer off into the ether with this animal stuff.

Also how's he putting on all the weight?

I hope that was human flesh.

My top 5:

MBV
Cohen
YYY's
The Cure
The Hold Steady

Biggest disappointments:

Morrissey--easily. What a pretentious fuck.
TV on the Radio--loved their shows in the past. Didn't handle the big stage well.
Brian Jonestown Massacre--zzzz

Favorite surprises:

Thievery Corporation--didn't really know them well, but liked it a lot.
Cloud Cult--caught the last third of their set and wish I'd skipped Ida Maria
Crookers--didn't have any clue, but great show.

Biggest regrets:

Missed Tinariwen for TVOTR
Missed most of Okkervil River for pre-functioning
Missed Bob Mould (although the Liars were damn good, too)
Missed most of Cloud Cult for Ida Maria
Missed the last 3 songs from Leonard Cohen for the meat-hating primadonna.

Overall, great weekend.

The Cure were pretty awesome. Played 3 songs after Coachella pulled the plug, pretty epic. I have a revived repect for Robert Smith.

Day 1

Highlights:

The Courteneers: Surprised at how good they were, and downloaded the album first thing when I got back. Tight playing, and not as sappy as I would have thought.

White Lies: I had no idea how young these kid were. We were really impressed. Some of their songs rely a bit too much on the keyboards, but they were heavier live than on the album which was a plus.

Felix da Housecat: Dude tore up the Sahara tent with some mad bouncy and distorted funky techno, and had the crowd throwing their hands up in ecstasy. He played some mental tunes.

The Hold Steady: Holy shit this band are terrible. By far the worst set we caught. Walked out after 2 songs.

We Are Scientists: Not overly familiar with their stuff, but a few of the tunes were catchy and enjoyable whilw we were resting up on the lawn.

The Black Keys: These dudes KILLED it. Sounded fucking brilliant live. Heavy, rough, and they sounded amazing on the main stage system.

Franz Ferdinand: Nick had a bum leg due to an injury, so no jumping around for him, but they sounded GREAT, and the fans were there in full force. Large daytime crowd on the main stage for sure.

Silversun Pickups: They played their hearts out, and man do the new tunes come across very nicely live, but the sound was very unfortunate. Guitars and vocals were overpowering everything else. The crowd went off for them though.

Morrissey: What a joke. Most laughable set this year for sure. How does any actually still follow this douche.

Paul McCartney: Best set from Friday night hands down. Fantastic selection of tunes, he and the band played the hell out of the songs, the sound was tops, played well past midnight, and 2 encores. Visually the best performance of the entire festival. Also, more emotion during this set than any other I caught. Absolutely stunning, and one of the best shows I've ever experienced.

Ok, here's some pics...

The first half of McCartney's set was the definition of meh. The latter half (predominantly Beatles) was pretty good.

Overall a decent show, but definitely not a festival highlight for me.

I was at that show too and completely agree with your assessment--had to walk away early. They were much, much better this year.

Looking forward to Dalen's scathing review.

I remember lying on the grass and falling asleep with people standing all around me. That's how 'exciting' it was.
