Just a suggestion that you may or may not be interested in, but I run the computer through a vintage receiver and speakers, which I think sounds better than the general PC style speakers for a similar price, although they take up more space.

I use a vintage Harman Kardon 330 receiver that I picked up for $15 and play through some Fried A/3 speakers I grabbed for $150. Like I said, it takes up space, but it will stomp all over any PC speakers I've heard for a similar price.

You'd end up with diffrent pieces if you go this route, but the basic dea of going through an old receiver and traditional stereo speakers can sound really good for little money if you've got the room.

Just Say No to Best Buy/ CompUSA junk. Nobody's suggestion is a good way to go.

Or go here:

http://www.vonschweikert.com/fps_speaker.html

Real speakers for the computer that look and sound good.

damn those von schweikert ones look spicy. but i don't live in USA

i might as well go with the klipsch 2.1... they look real neat. and i think prbly beats out the logitech counterparts in quality (and midrange etc)

i wonder if i need to upgrade my sound card to a super quality one to get the max effect out of these

Aimarr,

Just get these speakers.

I run them through my IPod at work and they sound fabulous.
The 75w Sub booms out the bass for its size, and the seperate volume and sub control makes using them sooo nice.

I should mention that i have the Harmon/Kardon soundsticks at home, and like the Klipsch much better. Not as much as my Klipsch home stereo speakers though... )

Seriously, read the reviews on the apple site about these speakers. You will be amazed.

for reals

i just need to find a decent dealership for the klipsch here in melbourne. they are way more expensive than the logitech 2.1s here.

but yea i gotta agree they seem better quality wise. out of the casual reading i've done logitech's seem to be more ideal for inane bass bumping while the klipsch is good for overal sound reproduction and awesome midrange etc

anyway thanks

Which Klipsch do you have? I have a pair of the SF1's, with a KSW10 sub. Sounds pretty good to these ol' tin ears. 8)

My recommendation is to get a nice pair of satellites sans sub - the sub just seems to take up too much space and add too many wiring hassles to really justify its existence. I think if I were in the market, I'd get something like the Bose Companion 2 ($99):

srsly, the bose sets are overpriced. but you're right, they look neat without the sub/wiring

Creative Inspire T7700 7.1 Speakers ($85)

www.sharkyextreme.com Wrote:
As gamers flock to high-end speakers from Logitech and Klipsch, Creative has gone to great lengths to improve their own speaker line. Creative speakers cannot compete with Logitech or Klipsch at the hardcore enthusiast level, but at a significantly lower price point these become an excellent value. The Creative Inspire T7700 7.1 set can't be beat as they offer the best value for the money, and are priced at a little over $80. Delivering a total of 92 watts RMS power and 125 watts of total system power the set is a bit more powerful than the Creative 6.1 set, and other similarly-priced systems.

Creative Inspire T7700 7.1 Speakers ($85)

I use the Creative Inspire 5.1 and they are great for my office. Of course if you want to be a man, get an airtunes and a high tech sound network that includes switchable speakers on the front and back porches and a 6.1 surround system that will literally recreate the sound of a Nascar race......

I think you will be pleased with Creative's stuff; their subs are great.

An added note: Whoever came up with that little desktop remote control gizmo is a genius man, a genius I tell you.

I got these for Christmas and have been satisfied. I'm no speaker expert, but they sound pretty damn good.
