Oh, and I'll post my ballot here so everyone can see exactly how bad I am at predicting these things (and as proof that I'm not cheating).

I'm pretty sure this year will live up to the usual level of board participation.
:gir:
(in other words, what sorta mix would you prefer this year, DM? Mellow, modern, old school, rawk, willfully obscure, or all of the above?)

I'm in for the first time this year, so you can up that number to a whopping three.

I'll give this a shot. I'm probably really awful at this as well, especially considering that I never even pay much attention to the Oscars.

I'd like to make a mix for somebody, though. (heh heh...)

edit: Just sent mine. Man, I really didn't see many movies last year. I had no clue for most of that stuff.

Wow. I don't think I've seen any of those movies, except for Spiderman II at a friend's house.

I saw snippets of Ray at Good Guise when I was trying to buy a TV (they wouldn't let me, snotty bastards). Does that count?

Pretty sure it's 5 pm Pacific time.

So far (if Marco gets his selections in) we've DOUBLED our entrants from last year. Woo-hoo!

I took a stab...when in doubt, I picked The Aviator..I figure they'll shaft Marty on the real awards, and throw him all the down ballot bs they can. I think Sideways wins adapted screenplay, but loses the biggies. Million Dollar Baby is going to clean up. Ray, aside from Jamie Foxx, is not really regarded by these fooks as a real movie, and Sideways is too man-centric. Neverland has a shot, but i think they'd rather give Johnny his due in something more sinister.

And besides, I think Clint has a standing deal with voters that if they don't for his films, he'll kill 'em. I mean he cleaned up for Unforgiven and Mystic River, two of the worst "good" movies ever made. My $.02...but I don't know shit when it comes to Oscar.

Also, I'd like to add that Marty winning for The Aviator would be a shame, because he's been shut out so many times with better actors and better movies.

Actually, I can't remember. I've been pretending the magic number from last year was 3. How many mixes did you receive, DM?

I should also mention that my predictions are not based at all on who or what I think should win. I long ago gave up on that voting strategy.

Our picks are similar, Rads, but I will win because of the Academy's Scorsese bias.

No, 2 years ago it was just you and I. Last year there were at least 6 or 7 (you, Billz, epa, Vortex, me, Su, papertiger---off the top of my head) I only received half the mixes though :x.

I'm in, just choose "Ray" whenever possible, followed by the Aviator. If neither, then whatever the second choice is.

This really was a crappy crappy year for film.

Crappy for the mass-marketed stuff that makes its way to the enormo-plexes out here in the 'burbs.

I can't believe Motorcycle Diaries didn't get a nom.

Guilty as charged, sir. I won't confer status one movies just cos they're foreign, but my attitude is now "good = good, no matter what"

There've been some decent recent releases. The Lord Of The Rings set was special, Chocolat made it to our gigaplex, Master and Commander was better than most, if you remember not to compare it to the books. The only thing I enjoyed this year was The Incredibles, and *maybe* the Harry Potter flick.
