I've built a small but substantial of bonus DVDs from my CD purchases, and I have a few faves.

Les Savy Fav's Inches is my favorite hands-down. Not only does it have the entire album on DVD, it has separate commentary tracks (much like movie DVDs) on each song. Awesome. The videos and live tracks are just icing on the cake.

In my experience, Interscope artists have done a pretty solid job across the board (...Trail of Dead, Jurassic 5, Queens of the Stone) with a combination of live tracks, "making of the album" footage, slices o' life, and possibly a video or two. Doves' Some Cities follows the same formula with a good amount of success.

Bloc Party's Silent Alarm was a bit of a disappointment due to lack of content: only four live tracks. However, what does come across is how big their live sound can be, and it just might be enough for me to make an effort to see them.

What are some that you like/love/hate/say-'meh'-to?

np: Pernice Brothers - "Waiting For The Universe"

The only ones that I have are:

Queens of the Stone Age: Songs for the Deaf
AYWKUBTTOD- Worlds Apart
Elbow- Cast of Thousands

Queens and TOD were pretty solid. Lots of interviews and backstage footage as well as some live performances.

I never was able to get the Elbow DVD to work.

I think the Eminem Show had a DVD with it but I can't remember.

I have a few but I always forget about them.

Les Savy Fav Inches
High On Fire Blessed Black Wings
Kill Me Tomorrow The Garbageman And The Prostitute
Jeff Buckley Grace & Live At Sin'e

I probably have more but that's all I can remember right now.

I think the Elbow thing is actually a CD Rom rather than a DVD.

The worst one I have ever seen is my import copy of Neon Golden by the Notwist. It says on the sticker on the jewel case "gratis DVD sampler" and there is no DVD in the case.

CD-ROM/DVD extras are OK as long as they're on a seperate disc..

I don't think one has ever blown me away or enticed me to buy an album, but they have forced an upgrade once or twice despite their almost inherit lack of staying power...

Still, David Cross + Warped Tour + Peaches = Comedy Gold

Dressy Bessy's s/t was very very good. Showed making of the album, had videos, and live performances. Solid.

It's not an "accompaniment" DVD, but I was just watching The Cardigans Live in London DVD (it was recorded back in 1996). The band by itself is impressive but Nina's vocals practically render the damned thing unlistenable.

Her voice was so much better on the DVD that accompanies their Long Gone Before Daylight CD. But I don't like their new stuff as much.

I have a bunch of these. Rufus Wainwright, Jeff Buckley, Josh Rouse, Hawksely Workman, Ash, Foo Fighters and a few more I can't remember. I should really watch them at some point.

Which Hawksley Workman came with a DVD? I must have missed that one.

Lover/Fighter I actually got it from Mr. FT in a trade. I think it's only an import.

Not for me it isn't. :)

I have that disc and I'm bummed that it didn't come with a DVD.

I just watched the Grace documentary that came with the Legacy edition of grace. Now I'm watching the 5 or so videos. More bonus DVDs should be like this.

I was disappointed with the bonus dvd on the lJeff Buckley Live at Sine cd. The live footage was cool, but minimal, and the documentary that came with it was an abbreviated, already released press kit on the mystery white boy dvd. Is the grace reissue dvd like this, or is it better/longer?

The documentary is an extended making of Grace doc that had been released in a shorter form somewhere else. It was new to me. But its 30 minutes long.

I always buy a cd, then go to the store like a week later and see that same cd with a bonus dvd. This has happened around 50 times. It doesn't hurt as much anymore as it used to...

QOTSA - Songs for the Death (very cool dvd)
Primal Scream - Evil Heat (videos for Autobahn 66 & Miss Lucifer. Also, P.S. peforming live)
