Well, I finally should get to go back to work on Thursday. I'll also get permission to drive again (hopefully - assuming all goes well with my neurosurgeon follow-up tomorrow afternoon).

The ironic part of it is that I will also find out on Thursday if I'm going to get laid off or not. Our company laid off 1/3 of their salaried workforce last November, and will lay off 1/3 of the leftover salaried workforce again by the end of September.

So, my happiness of getting back to a normal life may quickly be tempered by having to "start" (I've already started looking a little bit due to the fact than I knew this was possibly coming) looking for a new job and possibly having to move. Yippee!!! ;-)

Wish me luck...

Just don't remind them what that surgery did to the company's health care plan costs.

Luckily, the company I work for is so big worldwide that my little surgeries shouldn't increase their premiums too much... ;-)

Hopefully, they will be too scared to drop the axe on someone in your current medical state - a lot of HR departments at places I've worked have definitely shied away from any firings/lay-offs of anyone going through any type of significant health issues like this.

Good to hear you are getting back into the swing of things, Scott! I hope all goes well. If you do end up having to look for a new gig and move, remember we gots jobs here in Big D!!!

Remember to keep receipts for all your out of pocket medical expenses. That stuff should be tax deductible.

Yep, I'm getting laid off... this sucks.

Thanks for all the good wishes. I'm sure in the long run, this will be for the best. But right now, I'm struggling with it.

Son of a Bitch, that sucks.
I'm getting real tired of hearing about people with chronic health conditions that require immediate health care being laid off or terminated.
Best of Luck, I'm hoping something comes your way fast.

Hang in there, Scott. Let me know if you want me to keep tabs on possible leads here in Dallas.

Actually, yes... that would be great. I was originally narrowing my search to more smaller towns around my wife's family (Fayetteville / Fort Smith / Springfield, MO / Joplin / Little Rock / Tulsa / Jonesboro), but based on how little there seems to be out there right now, Dallas is definitely now a possibility. I'm planning on scouring the job-search websites this weekend looking at bigger cities like Dallas, Kansas City, St. Louis & Memphis.

Anything you can do would just be gravy!!! Don't worry yourself about it, but if you hear anything, sure, let me know.

My background is in Industrial Engineering... so anything like that, or Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer, Quality Engineer, etc. Or really, any manufacturing facility and/or distribution center that is currently hiring.

Luckily (I guess, depending on how you look it), they are keeping me on staff until the end of October, so I do have some time to find the right match.

How do you feel about the greater boston area...? I donno if we're hiring, but those people and my people are pretty tight.

If I wasn't married with kids, I would love to move to the Boston area!!! My wife isn't going to allow that...

Unless it's like a 1-year deal, where I move back here after it's over (in hopes that the economy has picked back up to where I can find a more permanent job in the area). We actually have talked about doing that, in as painful that may be.

PM me any details... I'll at least consider it.

Ugh. I figured as much - and I don't know of any short-term deals, other than internships for grad students and such. And the engineering guys don't even do those.

Sorry man. Something will come up.
