Thanks. Been looking forward to this. Oh, and Premiers Symptomes is just as good as Moon Safari. I've liked all their stuff at least a little...Pocket Symphony was probably the weakest though so I'm hoping they step it back up a bit with this one.

i got a promo of this over the weekend and one of the press quotes on the packaging is pfork stating "it seems like the 'back to moon safari' hype may not be completely unwarranted this time." and i just thought that was such a bizarre quote for a label to put on promo material. it's almost like they're acknowledging air hasn't done anything worthwhile in over ten years.

It's all right but nothing to get bunched about. I'll give it a few more plays.

well, i don't know about you, but in the world i live, it comes off as strange for a record label to use a quote essentially saying "every time this band puts out a new album, the initial hype is that it's a return to what almost everyone agrees is their best material. that hasn't been true. this time it might actually be true."

first of all, that's a pfork review, not from the band. approved yes, but they're not saying it, a reviewer is. the reviewer is not entirely wrong, as quite a few of these tunes sound similar to their earlier works.

saying that they might be returning to a previous sound does not say that "anything they've done in between isn't worthwhile". that's just dumb.

when Air is "on" they are pretty much my favorite band and Moon Safari is basically to me a perfect album...so the bar is pretty high in my mind. That said, they have had some really excellent singles...

it must be really annoying to artists when people are always "omg, like, i hope their new stuff sounds like their old stuff".

What if the Stone Roses carried on in a good ol' regular rock direction and after 5 or so albums had finally succumbed and just started aping Black Oak, would the same still apply?

Am I the only one who thinks the whole Moon Safari is sooo much better than everything else they've done hype is overblown?

I'm liking the new one. I wouldn't call it Moon Safari 2, and I'm OK with that. If I want to listen to Moon Safari, I'll go play the damn thing. This is another Air album, sounds completely like them without aping any specific thing they've done already. Bee a Be is playing right now...one of the most immediately fun songs on this one.

nah, IMO the problem with Air started when one of the "fella's" decided it was a good idea to sing on a track. then he decided it was an even better idea to sing on almost every track. killed the band for me anyways.

the woman who sings on the first album has her own cd out...beth hirsch... I have that cd somewhere. there is another cheesy metalish beth hirsch. it's not her.

i'm not saying they haven't had their moments this decade. (see: that i actually like 10,000hz legend.) all i'm saying is it's a bizarre press quote to put on promo materials, especially on the heels of every other air press blitz coming down to "well, is it like moon safari or not?"
