...because on Saturday and Sunday I saw Pearl Jam do two of the best shows I'll ever see in my life.

Saturday was their taping for the Austin City Limits show (Nov. 21 air date) that was untouchably awesome. I'll never come close to seeing anything like it again.

Sunday they headlined Austin City Limits Festival and played one of the most powerful, just about perfect sets I've seen at any fest, arena or theater show. Even on grounds that were muddy like Woodstock '94 after two days of rain, it was spectacular.

Check out my scribblings on it all, if you have the time.

Cool.

I'm looking forward to the airing of the show.

I'm glad it was everything you were hoping for Chadwick. Sounds awesome.

Seeing them Halloween night in Philly, and really excited about it. I've seen them before, and they've always put on incredible shows.

I remember them stealing the show when I saw them at Lolapalooza.

Ditto - and they were on like 2nd, weren't they?? This was right as they were really blowing up as I recall...

They were amazing when I saw them in August. Eddie's never had what you could call a strong voice, but he sounded great, and the band was tight. They played for over two hours, and even though I'm not a huge fan, they had me enthralled the entire time.

Good review. I look forward to the ACL show as well.

Yea, I think they played right after Lush. I was there to see Ministry and was like, "Holy Hell" these guys that have those 2 songs on the radio that get played every 10 minutes are bringing the rawk!

Definitely. Their shows are super-tight now, and definitely worth the price of admission, which probably will set you back around $80. If you get a chance dl the Bonnaroo performance from last year. Oh man.

I'm really jealous. After seeing them play last week I am ready to take drastic measures to see them play again on this tour. The show was super-tight for sure and the thing is they manage to keep it tight while playing a completely different set every night. I've seen speculation that they're going to play their entire catalog over the 4 nights in Philly. They did this a few years back over 3 nights, so makes sense they would try again. Throw in the fact that it's Halloween and you never know what might happen. Have a great time and please report back on what happens.

It was my 4th and 5th times seeing them and I'm still an infant in those ranks. One gal dancing off to the side of me at the taping was enjoying her 65th performance.
Another woman who writes for Billboard mag (and knew our own Katie, A Princess) is somewhere just north of 100.

First Darkness on the Edge of Town, then the Dick's Picks schmaltz, and now going all dewy-eyed on ... Pearl Jam?

All y'all on Obner are getting too old and settled for me.

You can only listen to the indie rock flavor of the week so much before cleansing the palate with something.

But, yes, the Dick's Picks thread is an abomination. I think it's purveyors even know this.

I am not a PJ fan. But I did see them live, opening for the Chili Peppers in '91, back when I was a RHCP fan, and when PJ were pretty well unknown. And Pearl Jam were, even then, a fucking amazing live band.

A little dumpster diving once in awhile is good fun.

On a more serious note, the guitarist is one of the great students of rock guitar, a hugely talented and passionate guitarist. The singer, bless his midget's heart, bleats like a goat and has a hard time staying in the same key with the rest of band when singing live. I've seen them live 4-5 times, and once opening for the Rolling Stones. Vedder came on w/Stones to sing a duet with Mick.... I was close enough to see Mick's face, forehead wrinkled in concern, trying to undertand what key Vedder was singing in.

Which guitarist, Harry? Stone or Mike?

I was going to guess that. Yeah he's always been pretty tasteful, and unusually capable for someone in that kind of band.
