I know we have folks here with back probs. Is a Herman Miller Chair really that much better for me than a lumbar pillow and every-2 hours walks up and down the stairs?

A few years ago we looked at Herman Miller, but ended up going with Human Scale seating in our office. Could not be happier. Makes a huge difference dude. A pillow just doesn't cut it.

or its older, more famous, and cheaper cousin, The Aeron

On the one hand, it's fabulously expensive. On the other hand, it's my fucking BACK, which is apparently going to give me problems from now until they lay me out.

Which one do you use, Dale?

I like the looks of the Freedom Chair. Serious question -- will a dude like me fit in one?

yep, the freedom, and yeah, will definitely fit you.

best thing to do would be to go test them out. and don't wait man, like you said, it's your back.

I'm gonna venture a guess that there aren't many retailers here in Montgomery - do they sell them @ Office Box?

I was going to just order one :)

And, at half the price, that is a much easier sell/investment.

Thanks for the advice.

I didn't know you could buy the herman miller retail. There should be a rep. that covers your area. They may be willing to ship you some samples to try out, especially if you are buying several for the office. (I doubt you would want more than one for your office.) The Merchandise Mart in Chicago is excellent because you can stop in and test them easily. (I realize you aren't going to make a trip to Chicago to test chairs, but there may be a similar place somewhat close to you.)

I sit in a chair for 8 hours that is designed to be sat in for 3 hour intervals, maximum. I think it was like $100.

No, but I do have a pinched nerve in my neck that creates muscle spasms in my mid-back just under the shoulder blades. I think this particular chair is more about creating sciatica.

I'd love to have a chair that isn't a piece of shit.

Why don't you get one.

Mine is pretty chintzy. The boss sees no problem buying 100 dollar bottles of scotch for his political patrons, but doesn't even offer health insurance or any benefits.

That said, he is worried about his back, so he is thinking of buying one of these chairs for himself.

Sounds like it's time to re-visit Austin, and hit up Relax the Back.

Now that I've finally started my new job, I need to look more into this as well. The chairs we have suck balls. After my two surgeries last year and the two-level fusion, I can't afford to accept ball-sucking from my office chair. Four spinal surgeries over 5 years will cause some concern... ;-).

I've always thought Herman Miller were overpriced, but I have heard that Human Scale is a little more moderately priced.
