Being new to the area (almost 2 months now), I was wanting some expert opinions on this. I've been to The Exclusive Company on Farwell. From looking on Google/Yahoo, the others on my list to visit are Bullseye on the East Side, Rushmor in Bay View, and Record Head in West Allis. Are those good? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!!!

atomic was the place to go until they closed last year. there is also a place called flipville that used to be a record store with some junk; now it's a junk store with some records. that might still be worth it, but was a mess the last time i went. not sure about the others, unfortunately.

Yeah, I think I read that Atomic closed towards the end of 2009. Sounds like that was the place to go, too. Oh, well.

I read some reviews online about Flipville that said the same thing... too much junk, and too hard to do any browsing of any sort. They did mention that if you know exactly what you're looking for though, the owner can locate things pretty easily considering how unorganized his/her system may be. Sounds like it needs to be a special indie music version of "Hoarders" on TV.

in the last two years that store has fizzled. the collection was always a little overpriced, but still very good. and now the front totally looks like it's out of "hoarders." it's like someone's attic/basement/storage from the 70s/80s vomited in there. and it's creeping into the backroom with the music, unfortunately. i'm not sure why he doesn't dump the junk. i've never seen anyone buy anything other than music there anyway. but, again, it may be worth a visit if you're in the neighborhood.

If you're jonesin' for a record store, drive an hour to Madison and you've got B-Side & Exclusive on State St. Strictly Discs on Monroe & Mad-City Music X-Change on Williamson St. All are very close to one another.

I've been to The Exclusive - nice selection of new CD's... lots of vinyl, big store, lots to look at. Probably will become my store of choice for new CD's. Good prices, too.

Record Head in West Allis - not much for CD selection, not many LP's... more of a "used" store with video games, some music, DVD's, stereo equipment, and instruments. Entertaining store, but not a great music store.

Rush Mor in Bay View - Small store, not much of a selection of CD's, but pretty cool vinyl offerings, special items, etc. - I bought a yellow vinyl QOTSA "Songs for the Death" album - alternate versions of songs from "Songs for the Deaf". Good find... he just received it. Dan (store owner) seems pretty cool and knowledgeable... probably will become my "Hidden Treasures" store.

Yeah, the next weekend that I'm not traveling back to Arkansas, I may make a trip to Madison to look around. I've been there twice already, but just for shows - Ted Leo at High Noon & David Sedaris at Overture.

Thanks everyone, for your input!!!

I'm loving Wisconsin so far... much more fitting for me than Arkansas. Of course, I haven't been through a winter yet... ;-).
