Generally, when someone asks me this question, my immediate response is Songs:Ohia - Magnolia Electric Co..

But man, I Iisten to What Comes After the Blues a lot.

Yeah, Didn't it Rain is probably the best, and What Comes After the Blues is near perfect. But I also reach for Trials and Errors more than any other... especially after the baroque and precious failed experiment of Josephine I need that Crazy Horse rawness to clean the aural palate.

I only have Magnolia Electric Co., but I'm thinking that I need more -- a lot more, as I am loving that album.

My preference is for Magnolia Electric Company as well, but I think I actually like the bonus disc recorded solo on a cheap tape recorder better than the full-blown one. Tough choice on any given day, though.

I wasted a $20 gift certificate on Magnolia Electric Co.. Another one of those artists that I just don't get. I'm not a big fan of Neil Young, but the notion of a version 2.0 Neil Young who sings even worse just doesn't strike me as appealing on any level.
