Ok, so it became apparent to me quite some time ago that a lot of bands have covered the songs of Stephin Merritt (aka The Magnetic Fields, aka the 6ths, aka The Gothic Archies, aka Future Bible Heroes). I guess I decided to stop putting it off and make a MF covers mix.

01. Your Yellow Dress - Absolutely Cuckoo
02. The Divine Comedy - Love Is Lighter Than Air
03. The Shins - Strange Powers
04. Superchunk - 100,000 Fireflies
05. The Lucksmiths - Deep Sea Diving Suit
06. Lush - I Have The Moon
07. Tracey Thorn & Jens Lekman - Yeah! Oh Yeah!
08. Mary Lou Lord - I Don't Want To Get Over You
09. Portastatic - Josephine
10. Holiday - Candy
11. All-Time Quarterback - Why I Cry
12. Tullycraft - Falling Out Of Love (With You)
13. Woodpigeon - Asleep In Dreaming
14. The Antlers - Nothing Matters When We're Dancing
15. Arcade Fire - Born On A Train
16. Kelly Hogan & The Pine Valley Cosmonauts - Papa Was A Rodeo
17. Manipulator Alligator - Living In An Abandoned Firehouse With You
18. Jacob Ruefer - The Death Of Ferdinand Saussure
19. !!! - Take Ecstacy With Me
20. Secret Bonus Track
21. Super Secret Bonus Track

A few notes about the mix:
- There are at least 3 MF tribute albums floating out there on the web, from which I snagged 2 tracks.
- There's also a bunch of live tracks of acts doing MF songs, most of which I ignored. These are all studio recordings with the exception of MLL and Arcade Fire, both of which were recorded live (presumably in a studio/at a radio station).
- There's also some stuff I left off. I'm sorry but "Book Of Love" is one of my favorite MF songs, and Peter Gabriel just doesn't do it that well. A shame, really.

You may already know this, but there was also a Bright Eyes version of "Papa Was a Rodeo" on the Merge comp from last year:

Yeah it's on the same comp as the Tracey/Jens song, I didn't want to do too much double dipping.

i've been meaning to listen to more magnetic fields, i imagine this is a bad way to dip my toe

i LOVE the two mac songs you included, and didn't realize that Josephine was a magnetic fields song.

that cover of "josephine" may have been how I got into superchunk in the first place.

Oh yeah, I meant to comment on this the other day. I'm a sucker for covers and love the Magnetic Fields. I'll probably be thrown into "kick" after this.

Thanks, bort.
