Who ya got?

This is a tough fucking game to pick: I've seen Oregon play twice and have seen Auburn at least five times (that I can remember) so I feel pretty acquainted with both teams.

Oregon is definitely the better team overall, but Auburn will have the two best players on the field (Newton and Fairley). Both teams play well in the second half. Oregon hasn't had to come back or play in as many close games but aside from Stanford, who have they really beaten?

Auburn wins but I'll be pulling for Oregon. This whole "pull for the conference" thing is ridiculous especially when my team is down: Fuck Orburn and the sorry ass horse they rode in on.

For gambling purposes, Oregon at +3 would be a great play especially if it were +3.5.

If I was a betting man, I'd take Auburn, but I'll be rooting for Oregon.

I think Auburn wins too. Can't decide who I'm pulling for. I'm kinda "Fuck Orburn" too. But Oregon and USC are the only pac-12 teams I don't like. Mostly, Oregon's team Nike status and constant uni-changes annoys the shit out of me. It's hard to see them as the underdog when Phil Knight is writing checks.

I guess I'm going fuck Chizik and Newton because I totally believe they paid Cam a ton of cash and they've been so indignant through out the scandal.

I'll echo what's already been stated... think Auburn will win, but will be rooting hard for Oregon.

Rooting for Oregon despite my obnoxious sister-in-law (who called me 2 minutes after Nevada beat BSU to laugh in the phone). Think Auburn will pull it out.

Two great offenses with an edge to Auburn because of Newton. Bigger overall edge on D to Oregon.

The 5 weeks off favors the defenses with time to prepare so I'm going with the under, and I'll take UO 34 AU 30 (laughable that 64 still takes the under).

I'm surrounded by these hicks. My lawyer, the new speaker of the house, the dude who shares office space with me and one of my newly elected clients are all Barners. Watching this season unfold while we shit the bed, then rolled around in the shit, then tried to wash the shit off using the shit stained sheets has been bittersweet at best, and when coupled with last years' Bama victory really has me rethinking football as a sport I enjoy watching.

I was leaning towards rooting for them, and then I remembered the dick breathed cumtini drinker Auburn fan that showed up at the New Year's Day party a few years ago in a Hawaiian shirt, and remembered that these people are classless hicks that can't even read, or they would have enrolled in Tuscaloosa, and would totally be going for The Ducks, save for the fact that I am negotiating pretty much all my contracts that will sink or swim a new venture with AU people, and I feel like my position would be henceforth improved by having them in a good mood.

So, I don't really have a bird in this here cockfight.

Speaking of Orburn and you, T: If Uncle Les leaves, what say you about the prospect of Tubberville coming to Baton Rouge?

If I was a betting man, I'd bet the under too. These games hyped as "shootouts" usually end up being more defensive-battle oriented than most people expect.

This is tough for me. I'm a fairly big Oregon State fan so obviously I would like to prevent the Duck fans from crowing about this shit for the next five decades. However, I also get really tired of the SEC and SEC fan and would like to see a team from this state win something big for once.

I honestly havent seen much of Auburn but have seen all of Oregon's games. Oregon is a tough team to figure out.

Factors to think about:

They usually fuck around for a half and then just wear down/demoralize the other team and go buck wild in the later stages of the game. They didn't play too many tough teams, but did beat the shit out of Stanford, who turned out to be really damn good. They have a freshman quarterback but two great running backs and some good receivers. They have an undersized but fast defense and generate a lot of turnovers and usually get stronger as the game goes along, much like the offense, as they actually play like 25 people on D. A super athletic Cal defense shut them down almost entirely. The last game they had against a team with this much talent led to a beating by Ohio State last year in the Rose Bowl.

I think teams that rely on generating turnovers and schemes to win are usually in a tough place in games like this. I thin Auburn shuts down the middle running lanes entirely and Oregon turns one dimensional and won't be able to generate enough points that way (and look for Thomas to throw a pick or two). Maybe Oregon runs a punt back...scores like 28. I think Auburn beats up the small Oregon defense pretty bad and puts up at least 38. Plus, as said above, the best player on the field is Newton...he's as big as almost everyone on the Oregon defense...

Factor in the five week layoff and they shouldn't even put this game on the board.

Thoughts from Derris.

1) This is normally the ONE game where I find it acceptable to pull for conference. With the current system we have, perception and subjectivity unfortunately come into play. Future scenarios for my team and all that.

2) I loathe Cam Newton and Nick Garley even more and certainly wouldn't cry if the Ducks put up 70 on 'em and beat the War Tigers by several TD's.

3) Bottom line, I've seen Auburn play so many good to great Defenses this year and NO ONE has been able to stop Newton yet. This team just feels destined to win it.

Auburn wins by 10.

I'll be curious to know the crowd numbers. I'd wager it'll be 60/40 Auburn fans.

I'm sure there are more than a few families that sold their trailers to be there.

"I don't give a fuck! I ain't missin this shit!"

I'm thinking just the opposite given proximity , liklihood of local alumni/fans and "west coast" game location.

Everyone I know is there. Their Failbook updates lead me to believe it might be 70-30.

Put it this way, Birmingham added 2 dozen extra flights and still sold out. People had to go to Atlanta, Memphis, Chattanooga, or Huntsville for flights.

It's been so long for this fan base that they'd sell their first born to be there.

Can't say I wouldn't do the same.

Just heard Fowler say that Auburn "had the advantage inside" with regards to fans in the stadium.

Didn't give estimates though.

Although Oregon has never been in this position I suspect you're right regarding the fervor of the respective fan bases. Advantage AU.

Also, loved the Newton montage and Musberger glossing over his time at Florida........"That didn't work out."
