Complete shit. I've had better in the school cafeteria.

I had one within the last few months, if only because I had forgotten what it was like. I'm not really clear on why people have gotten so riled up about it in the first place. I can think of at least two other retired McD sandwiches that were far better.

I used to love them and now find them fairly terrible. I'm not sure if my tastes have changed or they got much worse. I still like some shitty fast food, so I'm thinking it's a little of both.

I don't think this sandwich would be edible without being slathered in bbq sauce. Also, it could lose the onions.

I don't go out of my way to get one, but if I happen upon it, then I'll get one.

It cracks me up when people say how disgusting they are--as they are cramming something else just as unhealthy down their throat. It is what it is. I always thought the cheddar-melt was a better limited time sandwich. Haven't seen that in awhile.

well the thing I noticed the last time I had one was that it just didn't taste good. It was gross and bland and didn't even have texture going on like McNuggets or their fries. It was a waste of what should be fun calories.

My high school memory was that it was the best thing they ever made.

Its not the people that have an issue with the taste, its the people that pick apart ingredients, and say how unhealthy it is. Sorry, should've clarified.

Yeah, in high school it was called a Rib-A-Q and was really fucking good (gimme dat double lunch for an extra 50 cents, yo);

Because of that, I think I've always pretended like the Mc Rib is good, but to be honest I'm pretty sure I've never had one and would throw up if I did.

I remember having my first Mc Rib, with a different rib-sauce from the one used currently, at nine or so, at the Mc Donald's on 65th & North in Wauwatosa. Back then, the Arches still packaged their fare in styrofoam, & the Rib came in an orange container, the red sauce smearing against the orange polystyrene material to make a crime scene. The sandwich was oh, so good.

It went away, though. Within a year, or maybe less, the Mc Rib was pulled, becoming my first brush with discontinuation of one of my favorites. (Later in the decade, I would know this again, when, first, Coca-Cola pulled Surge from the market, then, within a year after that, Pepsico pulled Storm. (Thankfully, at least, my product cancellation heartbreaks have been limited to foodstuff; I never watched Arrested Development, nor did I ever want to.)) The Mc Rib became just a memory.

Then, in 2000, at college by this point, the sandwich returned. It was touted -- ironically, maybe, but with the party in question, how in hell can one know -- by the lads at Buddyhead, future Nine Inch Nails tour guitarist Aaron North & LA scene photographer Travis Keller*, & being a terminally unhip, terminal acne sufferer in Central Wisconsin, I followed their seemingly cool lead. Mc Rib. Was. Back.

I had to have it. I do not think I ever did, though. Not on that first return. But, the memory rekindled, I marked the days 'til the inevitable third coming, & when that came to pass, in '05 (if memory serves), I murdered those ersatz pork product between two hoagie slices. Murdered them. I could not get enough.

Now, almost thirty-two, seeing another Ribolution, I did not partake. Not for the sandwich not being any good. Rather, having been spoiled by the gastropub insurgency, a limited-time fast-food sandwich is not enough. Not anymore.

I wish it were. I wish I could still live so simply.

Mc Rib -- this one's for you.

This. "Snob" is as far from the truth as can be.

Wait not liking a fucking McRib now qualifies a person as a snob?

Really?

I'm not picky about what I eat either but I had this when it originally came out and thought it was disgusting.

yeah, actually it does...also, I have a hard time with foodies giving shit to the McRib...Foodies (especially Bourdain) are always fucking going on about offal, and eating all the fucked up parts of the pig (tripe, kidneys, anal glands, etc...) and that's what the fucking mcrib is made out of...its basically an offal sandwich slathered in bbq sauce...food snobs should LOVE it.

Wow, so now you must like certain food stuffs or you're a snob? Hey, if McRib was somehow universally tasty and people denied liking them despite a secret yearning for their deliciousness, maybe you'd have a point. But not liking something that tastes like shit is not a measure of snobbishness.

Also, processed food versus non processed food completely nullifies FUDave's "foodies like tripe" argument.

Or put more succinctly, not liking McRib doesn't make you a snob but liking it does make you a slob.

That frozen Hungry Man rib sandwich I ate a few years ago was horrible, and yet it was better than the McRib.
