Run DMT: Dreams

I don't know much about these guys and really, this isn't usually my kinda thing. But I am digging this tape. It's about half an hour of psychedelic dream pop, really well done and walks the line between poppy accessibility and weirdness quite well with a few ambient noise kinda tracks tossed in.

How's that Co La record? I almost picked that up recently as I have liked quite a few of the NNA cassettes and was curious about their releasing some vinyl.

Five bucks for a tape from http://culturedealer.com/. Or, click the pic above and get a download to try out.

Ty Segall - Goodbye Bread
Dum Dum Girls - He Gets Me High & Only in Dreams
Atlas Sound - Parallax
David Bowie - Station to Station
Iggy Pop - The Idiot
Pere Ubu - The Tenement Year
This Kind of Punishment - A Beard of Bees
Disco Inferno - The 5 EPs

Those Dum Dum Girls releases are an improvement, but I still don't really like them.

Death in Vegas: Trans-Love Energies

First Death in Vegas release since Satan's Circus, an album I really liked although it never fared as well as previous efforts for most critics of the public at large. This one has moments of Satan's Circus's moody atmospheric electronic soundscapes but throws in a lot more upbeat moments and additional instrumentation, like the harsh shoegazy guitars that are layers over Black Hole or the techno beats and repetitive vocals pulsating throughout Your Loft My Acid. A good bit of variety here with a second bonus disc of mostly more subdued moments. Well worth a listen.

Good album. Song for song I think there really is a good bit of mediocre stuff in there, but when it hits on all cylinders it can be amazing. The World (Is Going Up In Flames) is an incredible track.

Just a couple of songs in and, yeah, these kids are dedicated to that sound! Still, I am digging the hell out of this, because it's the sound that I came of age to, also. And they do it really well. Plus, so far, the songs are good.
Dig it.

Dug this up the other day.

Quote:
The Beat was founded by Paul Collins, who spent his pre-teens living in Greece, Vietnam and Europe before returning to his native New York. He studied at the prestigious Julliard Music School and eventually moved to San Francisco where he joined songwriter Jack Lee and bassist Peter Case to form The Nerves in 1974. The Nerves proved to be one of the pioneers of the burgeoning US punk rock scene, independently releasing their own 4 song EP which included the classic “Hanging on the Telephone,” later to become a hit for Blondie.

After The Nerves disbanded in 1977, Collins moved to LA and formed The Beat with bassist Steve Huff, drummer Mike Ruiz and lead guitarist Larry Whitman. Their friend Eddie Money recommended The Beat for management by legendary concert promoter Bill Graham. Under new management, The Beat toured with The Police, The Jam and Joe Jackson. They also made numerous TV appearances and recorded their debut self-titled album with producer Bruce Botnick (who had produced The Doors). The album featured Beatles and Byrds-influenced guitars and catchy choruses, defining the skinny-tied power pop which The Knack took to the charts. In the ’90s, The Beat re-formed as Paul Collins’ Beat and continues to write and tour.
