Holy cow, where to begin... this past week was my "rock n roll lifestyle" week-- 4 shows in 8 days, which is a milestone for me.
First off, I must say that my husband is one of the most patient, understanding, loving men on the planet.. The only caveats he gave me were "Don't wake me up when you come home," "If you bring home one of the Duran Duran guys, they have to sleep in the guest room," and "If you sleep with any of the Duran Duran guys, you have to wear a full-body condom." I only violated one of those caveats, and that was the first one. Sleep with a Duran Duran guy? Only in Fantasyland where STD's and prior commitments like MARRIAGE don't exist, ha.
So what were the concerts?
Friday, March 4 - The Helio Sequence @ Doug Fir Lounge. This is a local band that I'd seen back at the end of last summer for free, but couldn't see the whole show because I had a cycling event the next day. These guys didn't disappoint... the house was packed and fun was had by all. If you ever get the chance to see these guys in your neighborhood, by all means, GO! Two bands opened, one called Ovian (which was quite good-- very atmospheric) and The Planet The (which could have conceivably been good if it hadn't been for their godawful screecher of a lead singer).
Tuesday, March 8 - The Futureheads @ Doug Fir Lounge. I had seen these guys last year, and there wasn't a huge turnout for them at the time. This time, the show was sold out. The band was very happy and energetic and seemed truly glad to see so many folks there. We got to do a crowd singalong to their version of Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love" which was quite fun.
Thursday, March 10 - Duran Duran @ Rose Garden Arena. Ahhhhhhhhhh (imagine light shining down through the clouds as the spirit of God/Mohammed/deity of choice encompasses you). Great show, and I had great seats-- on the right hand side of the stage, in the first section, about 12 rows back. I know Simon saw me in my cute little black top which showed off the décolletage. Yeah, right. The vibe was great, and it was so fun to see one my all-time favorite bands with some great friends. They played all my favorites, and had amazing energy. People are so quick to write off these guys, and maybe they are a nostalgia band these days, but there are very few bands that can still bring it like they do. So much fun that I took Friday as a vacation day.
Friday-- this was my recovery day, right? Unfortunately, I had a mishap with tequila this particular night, which led to me worshipping the porcelain god before hitting the sack.
Saturday, March 12 - Mark Geary and the Frames @ Aladdin Theater. I saw a free in-store performance by all the guys (including Mark) at Music Millennium. I got the chance to chat with all of them, but the one I was supposed to introduce myself to (per my sister's instructions) was Mark Geary. I had a very good chat with Mark before and after the in-store, and when I told him I was Beth's little sister, he hugged me. The show itself later in the evening was just amazing, and I think it had to have been the best Frames show I've ever seen in my life. Unfortunately, I was so dog-tired after our week of shows, that I couldn't muster the energy to stick around afterwards and wish Mark good luck. I did make his tour diary though, ha ha, even though he erroneously refers to me as Ms. Thomas (thinking I had the same last name as my sister Beth).
So now I'm back at work.... having not had a drink since Saturday night. What went on in your world?
