...Never seen such a broad mix of people in my life, and I've been to NYC...One of the most beautiful cities I've ever seen...Cannot believe how much real estate is there...For the most part, these people could give a fuck how cool you say any other city is, and now I know why...Amoeba music store is fucking UNREAL, I was a dork and took pictures in there...Saw the best view of any city EVER...Got drunk and ended up in a hot tub with two lesbians, a married couple, and my girlfriend, all naked. Welcome to California!!!...Taking a dog on a walk on a beach without having to put a leash on him is the best...Do these people realize how fucking out-of-control their real estate is?...If I lived there, I'd drive my car off a fucking cliff when I saw it was $2.67 for a gallon of gas. Then I'd take public transit because it's EVERYWHERE (Take notes ATL)! Took a tour of Alctraz and STILL know nothing about it. What a fucking joke tour that is. The boat ride there and back was WAY more interesting...I'd shoot myself in the eyeball if I had to look for a parking place in that town everyday...Without a doubt the coolest city I've ever visited. I wonder though if it's not TOO cool. I WILL visit this town again very soon. God I wish LooGar and Bloor were there for Amoeba. I'll bring pictures when I come down for Pete's wedding guys! ...And I'm GONE!!!

on my 48 state trip stop in SF, friend & i hit the wharf along with the "floating national park", fort bragg (can't remember, it's underneath the golden gate bridge), golden gate park (incl. botanic garden & chinese water park), and downtown (incl. chinatown). nice city. wish i could've seen more.

Welcome back, gar. You could put some of those pics in your personal album here if you wanted to. Mine has a good one of bloor and loog.

Did you have anything to do with the Gay Marriage ruling? We have a pool going...

No but I will say after talking to a few lesbians that they were just as suprised as most were about it.

i almost moved down there anyway. for school. except i probably would've rented a "house" out from my uncle (basically a basement).

I love san fran and all...but i still think it's too busy for me. I don't think any city has hit me quite like Portland has, and I live here.

Just wait until you see the one we have here in LA.... it beats the SF & Berkeley Amoeba. As many times as I go to Amoeba, I'm still overwhelmed each and every time.

Glad you had a good time in SF, I love that city with a passion... I go up there 2-3 times a year.

I will also say that I really liked Portland. I couldn't picture myself living there though, it's too mellow for me. I like the city way too much.

That's some L.A. Pride for you, right there...
and, yeah, as much as I love this city, I'd be in the bay right now if rent weren't so expensive (though L.A. seems to be catching up in that regard, for some strange reason)...

Thank you all for the kind words about my city!

Seriously, what a beautiful city. It's also a really small city -- if you know at least five people, you know everyone else in the city through them, guaranteed.

Yes, it costs an arm and a leg to live here. We actually got a strange deal on our house -- we live in one of those old victorians (two blocks from the fillmore), which is actually two units side by side. The owner purchased both units, fixed up one of them (ours) and rented it out while fixing up the other. In the meantime, there have been complications...long story short, we live in a remodeled victorian for cheap. Parking SUCKS, but for some odd reason that I will never understand, parking is great in the three block radius around my house. It's a mystery.

If you go to alcatraz, take a night tour. They take you around with a flashlight, and you get to go to parts of the prison you don't get to see during the day. We saw the old hospital ward, which was really creepy.

It's also great to live in a city where the mayoral race isn't between a republican and a democrat, but between a democrat and a green.

P.S. I get to go to Amoeba whenever I want. Neener Neener.

I'm such a dork. No matter how many times I go to Amoeba, I always go to the second floor and overlook the whole store and it is seriously fuckin overwhelming. And then the LA pride kicks in. Gotta love it! :)

I would so move to SF in a heartbeat, but I love LA beaches way too much. Not to mention it's soooo damn expensive.

My favorite cities in the US are Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco.

I lived in SF for a few years and really like it there - beautiful city, really unique atmosphere, etc. There are some real negatives like cost, some really pretentious people, some parts of the city are kind of dirty, parking sucks ass, weather can be annoying, etc.

It is a much harder place to live than Portland in some ways and I think at this point in my life Portland fits my personality better. Plus it is a lot easier in Portland to get into the wilderness and be alone - less than an hour - which is good for me. For people who like a truly urban atmosphere, SF and Seattle beat Portland hands down, but in Portland you can go out at night, be downtown in 5 minutes and find a free parking spot in a couple of minutes with no wait or cover charges at some really cool restaurants/bars. I don't miss circling for an hour to find a parking spot that costs 15 bucks an hour.

Only visit to SF: 4 hour visit when I was 6.

Only memories of SF: Fog, and having the bejeezus scared out of me by a mime, which was probably the precursor to my current loathing of clowns (and indeed anyone / thing wearing tons of makeup).

I should go back.

i think there should be a nation-wide ban on those dudes to spray themselves with metallic paint and act like statues. we get it - you can stand still for a few minutes. awesome.

Saw one of those guys in Germany back in 98. Saw him in Berlin, and then later in the week, same guy(hadda be) down in Munich. You put $ in his box that he's standing on, and he slowly ducks his head slightly forward.

Magical.

there's a rastafari dude here on the pedestrian mall in boulder that stuffs himself in a small clear box. i guess it's somewhat impressive, but the dude has HUGE crowds EVERY show he puts on (every hour). he's made so much $, that he alternates between boulder and key west to perform. nice life.
