what's the longest you've gone without listening to something by Nick Lowe?

Good question.
In the last 10 years, maybe 2 weeks?

Just about to switch one of these off and play the next I thought I'd mention both. They're a couple favorites from 2011 and they just keep sounding better the more I listen, Sean McCann's The Capital and Lee Noble's Horrorism. Both are atmospheric and heavy on the electronics. Horrorism has a bit more in the way of coherent melodies and buries some vocal bits in the swirl while The Capital leans more on fractured strings mixed into a bubbling stew of electronic sounds. They also both come in excellent vinyl packages with excellent cover art and pressing for the Lee Noble record and Sean McCann's coming with a bonus cassette of similar work.

I have my 5 year old with me at work today, so it was this on the commute:

Quite possibly the best kids album ever.

Skullflower: Fucked on a Pile of Corpses

Lo-fi noise and power electronics. Melodic guitars hold things together for the first half or so until the noise just envelops everything. A pretty harsh listen all the way through really though. If you're looking for some good noise and want to melt some eardrums, this will do the job. These guys have been around in various permutations for over 20 years, but this is the most noise intensive thing I have heard from them under the Skullflower banner, moving further away from sludgy Black Sabbath riffs of many past releases.

listening to the Best of 2011 mix from the Take The Pills blog. Nothing shocking, but it's nice to have all that pleasant indie/pop/rock all in one place.

Pretty much love everything Matthew Bower has done with the Skullflower name on it, but haven't heard this one.

Listening to this with my 12-year-old son last night and he looks at me with a smile and asks, "Doesn't this just make you wanna dance?!?"

Spade Kitty Records' final release. It's Matt's band.

Lee Perry: Rise Again

Lee Perry's recent release history is littered with a swirl of so-so releases with a few highlights peeking through and can be a bit of a beast to unravel. Well, here is one of the highlights. Bill Laswell along to produce is a natural choice to respect the roots and still ad a modern sheen to the proceedings and of course, bass. Not every track is a winner, but as a statement of purpose for the 75 year old Perry it doesn't get much better than the title track below. When this thing hits it's one of the best releases by Scratch in years.
