Just saw this and came here to report it, myself.
Your headline is much better than mine.

Goddamnit. This makes me surprisingly sad.

Long before I had any interest in music, The Monkees TV show was repeated ad nauseam during that early morning window when TV channels correctly believed school children on their summer holidays had sole control of the single television set in the family home. Along side The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, Gentle Ben (against all our hopes the bear never mauled the that buck toothed little monstrosity to death), Black Beauty (Calm down, it was about a fucking Victorian horse) and old Flash Gordon serials, it seemed modern, fast paced, wacky, almost anarchic.

Perhaps in it's own way it pushed me gently towards underground culture, towards the scream and howl of rock n' roll, towards a life time of beautiful alienation and total disdain for the squares.

However, on reflection, probably not to the same degree as Champion the Wonder Horse.

Clint has had his revenge in that Ron has pretty much become as ugly as Clint.

& turning ugly has to be worse than always being ugly, 'cause the turned ugly know how the other half lives, & what they're missing.

(Let's just hope Bryce Dallas & Paige don't take after dad.)

OK, now THAT is genius! I used to LOVE that song when I was a wee lad - just so damn ridiculous.

The running away from the waves bit in the open always got a laugh from me.
