I've heard a couple of their songs and am very intrigued. All I know is that they're from New Orleans. There's an archived KCRW show for them done while at SXSW that I'll need to research when I get home tonight. Have any of you heard of 'em?

They're opening for Brazilian Girls on the 29th -- should be good times.

Edit: Forgot to add their website: http://www.wlpband.com/

Benny, isn't this the band Graham was pimpin us at that Valentine's party?

You are correct. Crazy. Aural, a buddy of ours was telling us about them after seeing em as an opening band for somebody a month or so ago.

He had nothing but damn good things to say about them. I can't remember what he said they sounded like but that he "couldn't believe the talent that was emanating from the stage and how young they were".

For what it's worth he has pretty decent taste in music.

Unfortunately, I was in and out of my office they day they were being interviewed on KCRW. The only thing I remember is that Nic Harcourt made a comment to the effect of -- "Your sound isn't typical of what comes out of New Orleans".

No, Timmy...no REM! Sheesh!

Model U.N. is a turning point in many young people's lives... First time a white male learns to "embrace ethnicity - as long as it's not your own"...

You can like a band that much and not sound like them. Soul Coughing doesn't sound much like Neil Young.

I saw them at SXSW. They aren't that bad - in fact, on occasion quite good - but my friends and I spent most of the time mocking the band because of some fairly risible activities on their part.

For one, the drummer has one of the worst tics I've ever seen while drumming - halfway between Joe Cocker and Terry Gilliam's squire character in Quest for the Holy Grail. What else? Their lead singer plays a run-of-the-mill electric keyboard - but they hollowed out a perfectly good little baby grand to put it in! Why? I don't know. That's all I got.

Cool! I've pretty much decided that I'm gonna see them with the Brazilian Girls (who are quite good) -- I've a feeling it'll be a win-win situation. :)

These guys are good friends of mine. Went to high school with them. I even talked them up a bit a year or so ago.

i heard them on xm a little less than a year ago (the song "fit or faded") before i cancelled it and, though i searched high and low for their album, i didn't find it until i randomly found a promo copy at a used cd store--really surprised to see it. i like the album a lot even though it sounds very similar to latest radiohead incarnation. hey, there are worse bands to bite and they really sound good. it was a nice find.

i'm surprised to hear that they're still together because i can't seem to find anything about them since their website went down and the only press i could find via google was from two years ago when they played at the jazz festival in new orleans. nice to hear that i may get to hear new stuff at some point. do you know anythign more about them?

I have an old ep of them that they put out about 5 years ago with fit for faded on it. if i was better a computers I would put it on here. I 'll try, but can't make any promises. I know their old manager, lead singer, and bassist. They're playing Jazz fest again this year if anybody is interested in making the trip.
