One of the songs is like a solo acoustic guy singing about how the President is dead. Who is this?

yeah i don't think it was a straight up mix from the board, i think i d/led everyone's mixes and then made my own best of the best thing. Racontours (sp?), Zero 7, Thermals, and Decemberists were also on it.

ok here's s'more, i believe all by the same band. this one i think i actually know, but my brain just can't come up with it. the music is alt/rock/pop, in the vein of Ben Folds, Gravel Pit, maybe Harvey Danger?

1. starts off with "i see you're feeling self-assured" the chorus is like "though it's about you, you hear this song, and you will sing along" guitar riffs is kinda upsy downsy.

2. "nothing is forever, and I only have enough patience left for now." chorus is "we are the king and the queen" x 4

3. "step back and see the elephant standing in your way, clear vision is nothing if don't have what you longed for. perfection is for snowflakes"

there's another band - sounds like college hippie stuff like Blues Traveler or Dave Matthews or something like that.

"looking at you standing in the middle of a field." the chorus is like "just remember you are beautiful" or something like that.

the description and the collection of lyrics suggests The Long Winters, but I cant place the songs.

I was thinking this might be Self, but after a brief search I don't think so. definitely some kind of band like that from the late 90s

Haha oh wow Sister Hazel. Did my high school friends send you a mix from 1998 that included this?
