So I'm trying to tie together the live track from Muse covering "Prince's Sign O' The Times" , my wife loves Muse since we saw them Headlining the Kanrocksas Music Festival two years ago, and she use to love Prince (I think she has moved on a bit) with the New Depeche Mode Single, "Heaven". Unfortunately my wife is not that into harder music like Chevelle or Deftones, or A Perfect Circle, but I'm thinking of putting in a track from each, like The Red, Tempest, or...?

She loved AWOLNation's "Sail", but hated the rest of the album, and has grown tired of the single, so I'm casting out in a similar direction. I'm thinking of using Imagine Dragon's single, "Radioactive."

Then I bogged down. I'm stuck. Our Lady Peace? Incubus? Both dated for sure. Tool? another like-minded sonic direction? Air Supply? Wayne Newton? All I want is a mix that might flow well, be somewhat energetic, not to disparate or jarring. And I'm at a loss. How about you?

Advice? Suggestions?

Thanks

If you want something from the new Deftones, I'd go with "Romantic Nights". It could fit a Valentine's Day theme, as well.

Thanks for the thought. Might work.

I think what I am also looking for is another vein to mine. Another not too far removed sonic palate to complement the few songs I've pulled together. Would something like Frank Ocean's Pyramids take me too far afield? I've been focusing a lot on the tone and dynamism of the guitars in the songs I am putting together, and this leaves me a might uncomfortable. Ideas?

Goo Goo Dolls covering Prince.

Thanks Todd, but no. Not the direction I'm wanting. Own it though. Best Goo Goo output IMO, but then again, not that difficult a hurdle to clear really.

nothing else?

I realize this might be a bit too mainstream for many of your tastes, but the wife likes what the wife likes... (Rufus Wainwright, Vienna Teng, Joan As Policewoman, Aimee Mann, Muse). I'm trying to open up her ears a bit, while not straying to far outside her comfort zone. And I'll admit I've hit a wall on it. I don't know what else to plug in here. I'm stymied.

You mentioned Air Supply in the OP. Have you thought about Harry Nilsson's "Without You"?

I'm completely confused by what you're looking for with this mix.

He doesn't know, either. Just throw shit at the wall and see what sticks.

Stop Breathin' has it. Flinging poo around the room to see what sticks. Since posting, I've been looking into the new Metric album, Foals new single, "Inhaler", The Joy Formidable's "A Heavy Abacus", and stuff like Sleigh Bells, Stars, Twin Shadows, and Grimes to name a few. I've yet to hear the new My Bloody Valentine, any good? Worthy?

secondarily, I just put on Shudder To Think's "X-French Tee Shirt" and desperately want to add it, but it seems so not-user friendly. Always wanted my wife to like that song and band though... And for some reason now, I want to revisit some Shoegaze like Swervedriver. Odd.

I really like "Inhaler". The popular choice for Sleigh Bells would be "Comeback Kid" or "Rill Rill". I suggest you check out "You Lost Me" personally.

Maybe you can plug a band name into Lastfm and listen to the radio station it creates and get some ideas from there.

I prefer the "throw shit at the wall" process.

Here is a live/solo version of the song that I last suggested. I'll have to find the full-on album version, because it's a much bigger, more-dramatic arrangement.

Or, here's something else from that same album:
