The new Stephen Malkmus and Dum Dum Girls are out this month. Heard DDG, and it was kind of a let down considering how strong their last album and EPs were.

Listened to that new Malkmus album this AM (currently streaming for free on Amazon)
The first time through was a noodling snoozer.
I'm glad I didn't pre-order.

New Dum Dum Girls is starting to grow on me a little, but I found it initially disappointing as well. Feels transitional - like it's the last one before Dee Dee heads out on her own.

Malkmus album sounds like Malkmus. Raggedy prog. Deleted.

Most people left here won't care about the new Steve Conte album, but for the few:

so here's one that i've been listening to today from that metacritic list (MC says it's a Jan 2014 release, but i've seen elsewhere that it might be older).

Cherry Glazerr - Haxel Princess

Echoey indie pop with girl vocals. Not normally my thing, but the lyrics are pretty funny/bratty.

New Mouse on Mars EP called Spezmodia came out last week. I've liked their last couple of releases since their "comeback" (Parastrophics and WOW both in 2012), and this seems equally good.

Here's a "preview" that's almost as long as the actual EP (which is 20 mins):

Chances are you already know if you like Mouse on Mars by this point, and if you want this, it was on Google Play for $2.99. Not sure if it still is.

I like Xiu Xiu but I listened to about half of one song off that covers album and deleted it.

Xiu Xiu has always struck me as one of those bands I tried listening to too late. If I'd discovered them earlier their take on the experimental/avant would have really struck a chord with me. But alas. Now I find it hard enough to keep up with/enjoy the bands I did discover during that phase of life.
