So, thanks to a comment from a friend, I got to thinking:
What are some of your favorite bands that you have discovered through other bands covering their songs?
Lay 'em out there!!!
Me, in no particular order:
• The McKinleys -- ("Sweet and Tender Romance - The Bangles)
• Slapp Happy -- ("The Drum" - Bongwater AND "Blue Flower" - Mazzy Star)
• Roky Erickson (the entire "Where the Pyramid Meets the Eye" tribute record)
• Emitt Rhodes ("Live" - The Bangles)

I'll post more as I think of them.
You?

For me the biggest one is probably The Only Ones, one of my favorite bands, discovered via YLT's cover of "the whole of the law". In fact I learned about quite a few bands from Yo La Tengo

I learned about The Wipers when I was young thanks to that Nirvana cover.

And, I really hope that led you to Slade.
Right?

I learned a lot about funk and soul through sampling in rap music, can I do that in here?
