D'Angelo's long-awaited follow-up to his classic 2000 album Voodoo is just around the corner. Now, we've got the first taste of Black Messiah, which is credited to D'Angelo and the Vanguard. The song is called "Sugah Daddy", and it has been released as part of Red Bull's 20Before15 series. Listen to it above. 1,000 downloads are also available via the 20Before15 site.

He's the bassist? I honestly haven't heard of him until this. What's not to trust, the fact that he's welsh?

I'm more concerned with his John Mayer affinity than his being welsh, but mostly I feel like these baselines are adjusting my lapels so they can steal my wallet.

Pino is one of those go-to studio bass players. Been playing with Nine Inch Nails and The Who for the past few years.

To be honest, I liked Brown Sugar better than Voodoo and I liked Voodoo better than the new one. Still decent, but I do think it is getting a bit overblown just because so rarely does anyone put out anything decent at all after falling off the earth for so long. I guess I'm not so much a fan of the continuing movement he has made into more free form jammy stuff instead of solid individual songs. But I'll still always give him tons of credit for helping kick off the whole neo-soul thing back when as I liked a lot of stuff that came outta that. And this isn't by any means a bad album.
