Sturgill is the only one we have in common but I generally like that Chuck Prophet album. I've never been a fan at all of the Old 97's but have heard one song off that album twice and both times used shazam to figure out what it was and was surprised to find it was the Old 97's. I was really surprised the first time I saw Wussy on a list from someone I trusted but I've seen that album on enough lists now that there must be something to it.

My dad is obsessed with Wussy.

Half your list makes me raise my fist in solidarity, and the other half leaves me scratching my head in confusion. Which is just the way you'd want it.

That Foxygen album, though, is one of my great disappointments of 2014. Ranks up there with Foxy Shazam and Warm Soda on the "the fuck were you guys thinking?" scale.

I think the Foxygen album is an actual flame out laid to tape. Exasperation coupled with overconfidence and a lack of direction. It's the kind of thing a lot of bands would have scrapped rather than put out. It's also sort of like if each little idea that was crammed into every few seconds of Take the Kids Off Broadway was given room to stretch out and be its own "song", and it turns out that doesn't really work. It's not good, but it is kind of interesting.

Nice to see the Hamilton Leithauser on your list. I really like that album.

Cloud Nothings, Parquet Courts, and maybe Spoon will also be on mine.

Its an album that lends itself to obsession or at least that's been the case for me. (I'm susceptible to obsessing over albums like that though--my top 3 are essentially "albums I listened to everyday, uncontrollably at some point during the year")

As for Foxygen, yeah, what a fucking mess. I can't even call it a brilliant mess, just a flat out mess. The best parts remind me of an unreleased Elephant 6 side project from 1998 or perhaps a semi-bad drug experience.. Something about it appeals to me though and maybe it is the car crash mentality of it all. I actually had it ranked higher at one point, haha.

Drink, that Leithauser album is good, but also reminds me how much it sucks the Walkmen aren't around especially given how strong an album Heaven was. Glad dude is still making music.

Yeah, Chuck Cleaver, formerly of Ass Ponys, is the main guy in Wussy. I'm sure you remember the Afghan Whigs cover of Ass Ponys' "Mr. Superlove" on the What Jail Is Like EP. There's quite a history there.

Nice one, Chris.
We share two of our respective top four picks, and nine records overall. As for Wussy, they would've ranked much higher on my list if it were not for Chuck's songs, save for 'To The Lightning' which is great.

I didn't hear note one of Against Me or Wussy. Need to remedy.

Nude Beach just never clicked for me. Way too long and to me, couldn't decide if it wanted to be garage punk rock or new wave Talking Heads/Elvis Costello and ended up being neither.

one record overlapped. Funtimes.

Perennial faves BBjr and DBT didn't even make it in my Top 25. Didn't love the new Spoon either.

Oh well.

Almost February and I haven't gotten around to a list, but if I do, we'll have these in common. NQ Arbuckle might be at the top- criminally undervalued.

I probably would have ranked it higher if I had just listened to it more. But that's on me--it is a good album and as we've discussed before, they are an awesome band.

One of my friends remarked that not only is the Against Me album a great record, it's one of the very few punk albums of the last ten years that sounds like it has passion and purpose.
