All of the Beatles, tunes, of course.

But today in the car I heard
"Lola" by The Kinks
and it struck me once again how perfect that song is, both lyrically and musically. It almost made me cry. Really. I'm such a puss.

Well, yes, Todd you are a puss, but I understand. I will say The Kinks have a bunch of these, including "Apeman" from the same album and "Love Me til The Sun Shines" from Something Else.

I also appreciate the pop mastery and prescient predictions of "2000 Man" by The Rolling Stones.

I am sure I could come up with million of these. good topic.

you could probably devote this thread entirely to the kinks, but then where's the fun in that?

On the car ride down to MD this morning I found myself mesmerized by the drum sound of "When the Levee Breaks" despite my not listening to (or even appreciating) Zeppelin for the past 8 years or so.

Sometimes a solid dose of clasic rock radio can be frighteningly revealing. I still, however, have the Steve Miller Band with every fiber of my being.

Bob Seger's "Still The Same" had me in goosebumps recently. That bassy piano sound, the reflective pop sensibility, the backup singers. whoo.

Well, I've been gettin into the Stones lately and "Miss You" gets me. Every time. Always puts me in a better mood. It's sexy, it rocks. I don't know. Perfection.

And then I could go on and on about Radiohead, but I won't.

me: leaded or unleaded?
lady: unleaded...i guess.

i'll regale you with my fake english accents at the toll booth at a later time.

"My Sharona" .

Seriously.

Next time you hear it, really LISTEN - loudly, if possible. They gloriously beat the shit outta that song.

One of my guitars has faint pick scratches outlining the words "My Sharona" where someone used to have letters on the face of it. I didn't see it at first, but when you hold it up to the light, it's there. Why would someone do that? Put a song title on a nice guitar?

As a sidenote to another thread, Elliott Smith - "Say Yes" popped into my mind. I'll take "Come Pick Me Up" by Ryan Adams and see you the even-more-perfect "Dam, Sam", and be the first to bring up the "generic perfect song copout" of "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys...

Looks just like this, actually...

And didn't B.B. name it that to get out of trouble or something? Forgive my not knowing the legend.
