Sooooooo, I'm gonna take the plunge. Fuck. I can't wait to lose this thing. Or drop it in a cocktail. Two questions:

1. Where should I buy it?

2. Should I get a fire wire PCI card for my computer? My external HD (where all of my music is stored) connects to my desktop with USB2 and it seems plenty fast.

Welcome to the club sir!!

I think your USB should be plenty fast enough.

I would just go down to the Apple store at Lenox. I think prices are prettt much the same wherever you go for those things.

Actually, don't we have a no-tax holiday coming up pretty soon here in Georgia? That could take off a little. That might only be for certain products though. Non-entertainment stuff but I'm not 100%.

I think the no tax holiday is in August right be4 school Rick.

Max, they do a 3 or 4 day no-sales tax holiday in Georgia----mainly so folks can get clothes and shit for they kids before schools starts back. BUT---computers are included.

If I buy it from Apple online I can get engraved for free. I mean if I'm going to the Apple store in Buckhead, I'll just buy it from fucking Best Buy in Fayetteville, right?

I also think anyplace is okay to get them. You have two really good options.

1.) Buy it at Apple store or online, and get the Apple Care extended warranty.
2.) Buy it at Best Buy, buy the extended warranty and let them replace it when your's dies in a few years.

Both are winning options!

BTW, if you want it personalized on the back, the only place you can do that from is the Online Apple Store. The Apple store in your neighborhood wont take them and send them to be engraved.

didn't you have the new photo one? You should totally take this to the nearest apple store and raise hell. They usually cave pretty easy.

Thanks guys; I'll probably just swing by Best Buy tommorrow; Good idea on the extended service plan back_space; I'll have to investigate the options as I do not normally buy those things.

Make sure you get the warrantee. Spring the extra $40 and you'll get a replacement anytime in the next two years. I'm feeling Puma's pain because mine died after 3 months, but I had the warrantee.

and that is how i spent my saturday afternoon, my dear. waited 2 fuckin hours to have the dude tell me "you need to restore it, so basically you'll lose everything you have on there. normally this tends to happen when you have a pc. and then if that doesn't work, bring it back." some genius bar they have there.

well pc my $450, asshole! :D

so i just have to restore it. but, i need to figure out how to backup everything i had on there... some of the stuff i had to delete off my harddrive because it was full, and i'll be damned if i'm re-uploading 20 gigs again. i'm just not down with having problems within the first month you know?

I'm so glad I didn't get the Ipod. Mine's got much more storage (100GB), a much more user friendly interface (no itunes or other software required) and has brought me nothing but joy so far.

they're making so much money off teeny-boppers and their iPod minis, that they happily replace broken iPods. I know three people who all took theirs back in the first month for various reasons and they replaced them all instantly without even closely examining the iPod

EDIT: i spelt '"theirs" like "there's" and i HATE people who do that. What have i become?

dri if you have space available on yr hard drive, you can use an ephpod program to extract stuff from your ipod back to your hard drive. kinda roundabout, but better than losing the stuff entirely and it is free.

So did mine (20G), but Apple sent me a new one inside of one week. I was pretty impressed, actually. Sent old broke one out Monday and received new one in mail by Friday.

I can't complain too much, though. Mine was free. Wife won it in that Pepsi iPod contest.

(sigh) i should cite chase as a reference here, since he's the one who got me through a similar problem by mentioning said program. All Hail Chase.

you know i actually had my Chicago style manual out before i realized that was waaay too much like work. I figured the hail comment at the end exempted me, as if furthers your world domination plans.
