I might buy a X-Box for this reason alone. I've never owned or cared about video games before, besides tecmo superbowl on the 8bit.

also, for xbox live what kind of cable connection do i need?

one more random memo to myself, i guess:

tonight my son is bringing a few of his buddies over with his xbox and i just scored a halo2 rental at blockbuster for them. they don't have school tomorrow so it's a junior high frat party here tonight.

my menu has gone from vegetable stir fry to homemade cheeseburgers and curly fries.

I'm sure the limited edition doesn't have any actual differences in the game. All you need for xbox live is any kind of broadband internet. If you want to keep your computer and xbox connected simultaneously, you may need to buy a router (piece of hardware that allows 2+ computers to connect to 1 broadband modem).

The special edition includes a DVD with the making of the game... it's pretty cool. The game itself... O MY GOD! I was one of the dorks who got his at Midnight Monday.

Doood, the original Tecmo Bowl and Tecmo Superbowl forever changed football video games. They both rocked my adolescent world.

Ahh....those were the days

ayah, Hell I'm 30 years old and I want this damn thing.

I had the first one and didn't see what all the hype was about but as I kept playing it it slowly consumed my life. I found myself openly thinking about it at work and how the best way to get past a certain part of the game.

Basically it's graphics and ability to take you into a fully realized world are second to none.

God I'm a geek.

Oh yeah there will be no discount. I'm not even sure you can get a discount on the first one yet and it came out 3 years ago. Well, you might be able to now.

I would get it for him ASAP because they are flying off the shelves. The number of people that PRE-ORDERED this thing was around 1.5 million.

I'm still waiting for my gotdamn copy to arrive in the mail. I scored the special edition for $38 (shipping included) from mtv.com in late August. I guess the $20 tradeoff means having the game a week later than most. At least I have Fifa 2005 until then. But I can't wait to get Halo 2.

From what my friends tell me, its pretty redonkulous.

Amazon's got it for $50...but at least the shipping is free. AND it appears that if you end up spending $75 total you get a $10 gift certificate in the mail later. Better than nothin' , I s'pose.

***ANTI-HALO RANT***

I'm one of the few guys around who likes video games but is utterly sick of Halo. I mean, I had enough of this thing the first time around. I'm totally dreading the "Halo parties" that will be dominating our loft for many, many weekends to come. Guess I'll be spending a lot more time at my girlfriend's...

Granted, I haven't played the new one yet, but I've watched one of my roommates play it a little. The controls in the first one were nearly perfect (except for jumping), but I just don't understand how so many dudes just never get tired of this sort of game. I mean, the graphics? Slick doesn't necessarily = good. Personally, I find it to be one of the ugliest games out there despite it's impressive 3D particle and lighting effects, etc. Then again, that's all a matter of preference. I'm more of a fan of the Nintendo approach to making games and the kinds of style detail their games have. Those are pretty much the only things that keep me interested in video games at all.

I agree that the first one was kind of ugly. The Star Wars Halo-clone is way prettier, and much more fun (mostly because it's faster-paced).
