Is my brain mush or was there a Pac-Man cartoon? I'm pretty sure there was but the mind boggles at what the storylines must have been about.

there definitely was. the ghosts were characters, too (didn't one have a had or somethig?) and there were wee-pacs as well. I distinctly remember the xmas special, though i think there was an attempt at syndication. I'll check it out when i get home, as i'm getting the hell out of the office now.

At least up until a couple years ago, the Cartoon Network was still running the Pac-Man cartoon Xmas Special around the Holidays. I tried to watch a little once as a goof, & it was about the most annoying fucking thing I'd ever seen.

The Encyclopedia of Animated Cartoons Wrote:
"The immensely popular video fame character stars in this half-hour series, along with his wife, Ms. Pac, a peppery, liberated lady; the energetic Baby Pac; Chomp Chomp, a lovable dog; and Sour Puss, their sly cat. in fantasy adventures that take place in Pac-Land. a pretty pastel world composed of brightly glowing dots. Their perfect world has one enemy, however: the ever-sinister Mezmaron, who tries to rob the Power Pellet Forest of the power pellets Pac-Land thrives on. His attempts are always bungled by his comical ghost monsters, Inky, Blinky, Pinky, Clyde and Sue).

the show lasted 2 years, and was at some point was paired up with "Rubik, the Amazing Cube Hour", which is a little less than disturbing.

Chomp Chomp was voiced by Frank Welker, who has at one point played like every cartoon pet ever. Scooby, Dino, Spike...even Avenger.

So it was Pac-Man that did that to me, then. Or maybe Centipede or Asteroids.

"The game also underwent a name change. Pac Man's original name was Puck Man -- but a savvy executive at Bally/Midway, which distributed the game in the United States, had it changed on all machines, fearing what game room vandals would do with the original moniker. "

Buckner & Garcia.

Got a pocket full o' quarters and I'm headed to the arcade...

I think they originally just recorded "Pac-Man Fever" as a single and released it on 45, then when it blew up they made songs about Donkey Kong and Frogger, among others for a full-length.

Also, besides the Pac-Man cartoon, there was Q-Bert, who wore a letter jacket, presumably to distract from his giant schnozz that resembled a pocket pussy. I think Coily, the purple snake, and his gang were the leather-clad thugs of whatever the hell mutant school those freaks went to.

Then there was the Frogger cartoon, which would have been rather gruesome or boring depending on which angle you took, so they made him walk upright and star as the hot-shot reporter for some frog newspaper.

Also, let's not forget the timely yet unrelated WWF cartoon.

and let's not forget TURBO TEEN.

Not game-related, but nevertheless, strangely addictive in it's own right. It had kids around the nation dropping to their knees in the schoolyard, grimacing and contorting in their imaginary conversion into a sports car that fights crime!

What about 80s video games that were cartoons?

The "cartoon" games were based on laserdisc technology.

A buddy of mine had Buckner & Garcia's "Pac Man Fever" single in the picture-disc format...the picture was a screenshot of the game, natch.
