From tinymixtapes:
As if Saddle Creek hasn't been in the news enough lately for announcing its proposed takeover of Omaha with a venue/bar, pizza shop, theatre, and Center for the Suicidal Bright Eyes Fan, the label has some more news that will wet the palate of all non-Omahans as well. On August 23 Cursive will be releasing a rarities comp featuring ten out-of-print tracks sandwiched between two previously unreleased titles, the highlight of which seems to be "I Thought There'd Be More Than This" -- an unreleased cut on tape recorded in Otho, Iowa in 1996. All others were originally produced and recorded in the band's motherland of Lincoln, Nebraska by Mike and AJ Morgis.
The Difference Between Houses and Homes (Lost Songs and Loose Ends 1995-2001), besides having the longest title of an album this year, features original guitarist Steve Pedersen on all but the most current track, 2001's "Nostalgia." The other rare tracks include multiple songs from 7" singles "Disruption" (1996), "Zero Hour" (1997), and Icebreakers (1998). According to the band's website, the album will also feature a 24-page storybook written by Tim Kasher and illustrated by Eastern Youth band member Yuriko Yoshino. I can only speculate on what the story might hold, but in a completely selfish way I hope it runs somewhere along the lines of a NC17-worthy depiction of Kasher's divorce.
Fans were also pleased to note that the band, which enjoyed heightened fame after the enormous success of their 2003 release The Ugly Organ [TMT Review], also cleared up rumors of a break up on their Myspace page. "We were travelling so much that we needed a nice extended break in order to reinvigorate ourselves for writing new songs and to refocus on what we are doing musically and why," posted bassist Matt Maginn. "We also needed some time for each of us to do our own thing." The band has been on a one-year hiatus since their stint at Curiosa last year but plans to be active again in the fall.
