You might have seen my numerous posts about them, and they've finally recorded their debut album. It's catchy and fun and makes me want to jump around and drink vodka till my legs turn to jelly.

If you're into Bloc Party, I think you'll enjoy this album. It's released in August I think.

Fuck yeah. The Rakes.

Boy that song Retreat rocks. I really like it.

Is the rest of the album as good?

Yes, I have this album via my friends on slsk. My one friend has been raving about this band for a long time and told me that I had to d/l it when he got the album. That being said, I still have yet to listen to it becasue I have bought 10 new CD's including Coldplay and White Stripes. I just like the sound of CD's so much more than MP3's.

np: the Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat

I have had a chance to listen to this and Bloc Party is about right. They have that exact same vibe, a lot of short songs (not very long), and are all right.

This is my problem with new English band…

Nevermind, I have only heard it once.

Edit: I'm on slsk if you want it now, will have a new computer in about two more weeks.

np: Editors - The Back Room

The Editors on the other hand are something to get excited about! They do Joy Division better than anyone else I have heard. There seems to be something sinister and dark about them that make them genuine nonetheless. This is something to really get excited about, IMHO.

I should open this up in a new thread but I’m boycotting new thread at Obner, at the moment, to see if it makes a difference. All original stuff is going somewhere else...

Im listening to the Editors album now too, and I don't think it's anything special. Some great songs - 'Munich', 'Bullets', 'Blood' but a heap of filler too.

Maybe im just getting bored of this post punk revival stuff (I still think Interpol's debut is the best thing to come out of it), but on the other hand I find alot of these albums to be the same way as that Editors album - a couple of really good songs with generic Joy Division/ GO4/ Fall/ insert classic underground late 70s/early 80s band here knockoffs (see Maximo Park).

I did really like that Art Brut album though.

I haven't actually heard The Rakes though, and I could be completely blown away by their album, but I doubt it.

Different strokes my friend. I do think this album (Editors) will come into it’s own in due time as I only heard it once. I feel they have done much better than Interpol as the lyrics bring down that album in a big way but still like the music. I just have a hard time with it because of the fact that they are about the worst lyrics in the HISTORY of rock music. Editors have a genuine feel about them (dark) that might make them stand out of this pack.

The Rakes are a BIG disappointment thus far as this isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Whilst Banks' lyrics on TOTBL are never gonna be held up as a pinnacle of lyricism, they certainly are interesting (that "oh look it's stopped snowing!" line cracks me up everytime). Contrast this to that Editors album, which I find to wallow in a sort of vague darkness. I mean, I just listened to the whole album, and I couldn't tell you what one of those songs were about.

Anyway, I don't mind The Editors, I just think that record has three good songs and the rest filler.

Sorry for the thread hijack dalen.

look, both the Editors and The Rakes aren't rocket science. it's simple, fun, energetic punk influenced british indie. that's it. they're not here to re-invent the wheel.

sometimes you people read into shit way too much instead of just listening and enjoying it. i think that shit's funny.

PM's sent later this morning. T was right, i got busy yesterday.

Can’t I not like it and express why I don’t like it on one listen?

Spinning Plates and I were just saying what we like and not like. Just expressing our differences and having fun with it. I did think this board was music discussion were we are able to talk about things even if we don’t necessarily like it.
