I'm not a fan of DMB, but his label ATO has a pretty good roster of artists.

Gomez
My Morning Jacket
Ben Kweller
Mike Doughty
David Gray
N. Mississippi All Stars

I hope ATO isn't for Alpha Tau Omega.

Yeah, it's weird, huh? Dave's own music sucks in my opinion, but he's got some great artists on his roster. I honestly don't know... does Dave make a point of "guesting" on his artists' albums?

It doesn't really surprise me that he has good taste.
I am not a fan, but I can still hear elements of a lot of great bands in his music:
Gram Parsons, The Band, Led Zeppelin, Tim Buckley, etc...

Just don't like his voice or the way the tunes are put together. I would be curious to hear other bands do versions of his tunes, though. Not certain that I'd like them, but still, it would be interesting.

i think i find his band more anoyoing than him.
there extreme skill is used in a very boring way to me.

on a side note, whenever i see a kid playing multiple chords that use four frets, i know at some point they were a big Dave fan.

Has MMJ used Dave Matthews in a song? I don't remember one off It Still Moves.

According To Our Records, I believe.

I like Dave Matthews as a dude, but his band has to stop. I like the label's lineup.

nah, not unless he's playing the maracas or something

and that song he's does with Mike Doughty is the one song I consistently skip on Doughty's new album...not just because of him, but he doesn't help matters

I've always thought that I might like Dave if we could just lose all his fans. He seems to strike me as someone unique in the singer/songwriter vein that unfortunately developed a rabidly stupid fanbase that absolutely ruined it for me. Live he has consistantly covered some really amazing and diverse artists (I've run across Lyle Lovett, Soul Coughing and others), he has always brought along adventurous picks for opening bands, and his label strikes me as almost adventurous to boot.

So to rap this up simply... So I can actually come out and like the Dave Matthews Band you'll all have to help me kill nearly his entire fanbase. Who is with me?

He's a huge radiohead fan. But lets face it, who isn't?

Enough people to count.

Dave has great taste, and Under The Table... and Busted Stuff are pretty damn good IMHO. I'll see him live because chances are the opening acts are going to be good.

I cant really get into him, but Im not a big fan of that sound anyway. I think I dislike the stereotype of his fans more than anything else.

I had read an interview with him somewhere, seems like a nice guy and I remember getting the sense that he really did appreciate music (what I mean is, he is aware of the history of rock etc).

By your rationale I would hate pretty much every indie/alt. band---especially Radiohead (apologies Puma--not YOU) because most bands fans are annoying...

I think DMB is pretty harmless. They have some decent songs but I have never felt the need to run out and pick up their albums. There are much worse crimes being perpetrated in the music world. For example: Animal Collective.....

Awful. Awful. Awful. I went to a bar in Baltimore for a drink with some friends a few weeks ago. They were playing some Dave concert on this huge flat screen TV. I made us leave.

Aside from the last few albums being stinkers, this is my feeling too - I'm more ashamed to say I like DMB's older stuff because of what and who his fans are. I'm not going to jump on the anti-DMB bandwagon in terms of music - I still think Crash and Before these Crowded Streets are pretty good listens every once in a while - but count me in as hating what the majority of their fans represent.

One could do a lot worse than Dave Matthews.

I own some discs and enjoy them when the mood strikes.
