of course this can change day to day, but I heard Jumpin Jack Flash this morning and damn....it just hits. So how's about your favorite of the reputed to be stolen open tuning Keith riffs?

Too many to name, really.
But the one that you left off that jumps immediately ot mind is "Start Me Up". From the last great Stones record.

Yeah, there's way too many and favourites are a sliding scale, but I always love Can't You Hear Me Knocking

I picked Satisfaction. I don't care if it's the obvious, but that song gets me going every time.

And the more and more I listen to the Stones, the more I fall in love. Thanks to the Senator for hooking me up with those albums. :rawk:

Street Fightin Man is one of the few stones songs where I really enjoy the guitar work.

Yeah, I probably could have listed a bunch more, in my haste. But I figured the open ended "Other" would at least spark some discussion.

And I wanted to point out that Jumpin Jack Flash will get you going in the AM.

interestingly enough, probably LooGar's least favorite Stones song (when we covered it, he was like, "Great. Good cover. Terrible song. :wanker: )

yeah this is just tough, not only because of the scores of songs that can totally be used for this, but because (for me at least) so much of this is tied to the other musicians, specifically whatever 2nd guitarist was around and Charlie Watts. I mean, I'm tempted to pick "All Down the Line", only to think about if for a minute and realize that that opening riff is just an intro for the slide guitar maelstrom that Mick Taylor unloads a second later. "Sway" is another one, but then I think if the drums weren't augmenting that song the way they do, I probably wouldn't be that impressed by it. Early Stones seems to make that easier, but still there's just such a goldmine of shit to sift through there...

The opening riff to "Rocks Off".
Perhaps the greatest opening to any album, ever.

Yeah, I'm really talking about those 9 or 10 "classic" Stones riffs from that era (the ones that Ry Cooder claims that Keith stole from him--there, I said it)

I mean, eras be damned, I would probably take "Rocks Off" just because its like a shot of adrenaline (or pure methadrine) everytime I hear it.

Sway is another great choice (and one of my all time favs, but once I found out that Keith doesnt even play guitar on the album version (it's Mick & Mick) it was downgraded.

written by Ronnie Wood and a sneaking about Mr. Jagger I believe. And an open "Bang a Gong" ripoff.

But wonderful.

yeah, Ithe fact that Keith has never openly whipped Cooder's ass for saying that is the only thing that makes me think it might be kinda true.

Yeah, that's funny b/c the Sen. and I have discussed kicking his ass for saying it.

But only because we KNOW it's true.

Wow. Late to the party.

I say 'Rocks Off' if only because I still remember exactly where I was the first time I heard this, and it transports me back to a great time in my life every time i hear it.

Oh, and Street Fighting Man is probably the only Stones song I out and hate, especially of those deemed "classics"

and yeah, I'll give Ry "The Flick of the Foot" anytime for peddling those open truths about Keef et al. They're Bloodsuckers.

Yeah, I figured a good, clean Stones thread was a nice way to while away an otherwise boring afternoon.
