It's so funny you mention that movie. I just got it in mail today. Eerie...

Is it any good? The premise blew me away so I just had to get it.

By the way, have you seen The Piano Teacher? It stars Isabelle Huppert. It totally blew me away. Very unexpected. It's a little slow at times but very interesting. A bit warped at times as well.

LOL...

"Isabelle Huppert stars as Erika, an emotionally repressed piano teacher still tied to her obsessive mother (Annie Girardot) and fast approaching spinsterhood. When an attractive student (Benoit Magimel) in her class becomes smitten with her, Erika sees him as a potential player in her dark sexual fantasies. Huppert is fascinating to watch in this disturbing character study based on Nobel Literature Prize winner Elfriede Jelinek's novel."

I HATED this movie.
Incidentally, it's after a book by Elfriede Jelinek by the same titled.
She won the nobel prize for literature this year.

:( Why? Did you not like the subject matter or was it just a bad movie?

the violence was off-putting. I shouldn't say that. I read the book first and didn't like it. The movie was exactly the same.

I also read a Very LOng Engagement before seeing the movie. Then I saw it at work. Where Jeunet was here presenting it, which was cool. I liked it, didn't love it. But the actor who plays Manech is the lovliest boy ever.

I am on a roll. Another movie which is good but I can't stand it Breaking the Waves. I mean, it's Von Trier so what do you expect, but the violence like that kills me. can't deal.

If you thought he was cute in that, watch him in Stranded, also starring Emmanuelle Beart.

I'd stray for him any day ;)

anyway, I don't like those intensely violent against women (not meaning they're mysogynistic but for lack of a better description) films. YOu see "Baise Moi"?
like that.

Then you probably didn't watch Irreversible. ;) I haven't watched Baise Moi. I'll stick in my queue.

Actually, it's one of my favorite movies of all time. Probably Top 10 material. It's just very hardcore violent.

there are some violent movies I like
ie City of God, Amores Perros etc.
it's just those hyper-realistic, I-could-put-myself-in-that-situation type films that turn me off.
