Because a lot of men in their minds want to be Draper and Sterling, or Bert Cooper.

I think Don's back story/childhood and adolescence would make as good a show as what is on Mad Men, and would be much better than Betty the Miserable Housewife, or Petey Needs It -- both of which we get too much of these days.

It seems just an extension of the "It's Martini Time" &/or "Swingers" boomlet of the early to mid 90s, wistfulness for the mind's eye's recollection of the years before it all went crazy (Kennedy shot, Beatles coming to America, Japan scooting past on the strength of better-mileage autos, et. al.). When america was AMERGIKAG.

So I started Season 1 over the weekend and am through ep3.

So far so good. Certainly interesting and well done.

Not sucking me in like the Wire did but I'm certainly intrigued enough to go rent disc 2 today. There are a lot of layers to work with here for sure.

The best part of this season has been the exchanges between Don and Connie Hilton. Last night's conversations about America, God, and the moon were particularly great. I find I care less about the characters personal lives and more about their time at the office. I like how they interact with each other and not other members of their lives.

Also, Don's meeting w/ his staff in advance of the Hilton meeting was very entertaining.

I like the fact that Hilton appears to be a real life version of Mr. Burns.

"But, Where's The Moon?!"

It will be interesting to see what happens now that Betty knows Don is a Life Fail playing a big shot.

Yea, I agree. That conversation was way intense, and its weird to think that she now knows about Don's past as much as the viewer does. What happens now?

Kennedy gets shot, I would imagine.

Don's life will assume a semblance of normality for awhile, then he'll discover that Betty's sleeping with the Rockefeller dude. Don will respond by nailing most of the Atlantic seaboard.

a rash of mustaches will make their way around the office.

Things won't work out with Joan and whomever Roger called, so he'll piss off his teenage wife by bringing her back to the office and bangin' around with her.

Betty will either have her life spiral out of control in a flurry of pills and sex with Duck Phillips.

Paul will start incessantly going on about Jazz.

Harry Crane will continue to panic.

Sal will turn up at some company dinner or something with a "john"

Kenny will... maybe we'll actually learn something about Kenny.

Pete Campbell will silently watch as Kitty Genovese is murdered in front of his apartment building.

Tonight's episode was pretty awesome. Mostly office driven, which I like. I'm also excited for season 4 because Weiner dropped a bunch of dead weigh characters that were no longer needed nor interesting. It's also great to have Don and Roger back together again.

I knew they'd bring Price in, but it was funny that Roger, Peggy and Pete all demanded Don's expression of Love and/or Fealty, and while he was ready to give that to Betty to keep the home together, he played harder ball with her when it came down to it, and then when over and 'seduced' Peggy.

The office intrigue was great - Bert Cooper jumping on Crane, and of course, Roger bringing Joan back in the fold to play the role that men usually play: cruel fixer.

Roger: "Peggy will you get me a cup of coffee?'

Peggy: "NO"

Betty's an idiot and a horrible mother. If they continue on this arc, I'll enjoy watching her crash 'n' burn with bad marriage choice #2. (keep in mind, I don't think Don is a gent, but she's getting more of the same, and this time with a dude she doesn't even really know)

LOVED seeing Joan walk through the doors last night, to help them find paperwork.

It was also nice to see petulant but smart Pete get picked over stupid-ass Ken Cosgrove, who will always and forever be middle-management and mediocre.

Anyone else foresee Sal getting hired back on as art director?

Joan looked like more of a modern day office manager than head secretary. It was a very subtle change in character.

Pete could be his own series. I loved watching him leave the offices of Sterling Cooper with a rifle slung around his shoulders.

Sal's definitely coming back, but it's hard to see him coming back with SCDP because they took Lucky Strike with them. But I think we'll definitely see him again. Maybe as a commerical director?
