Why does everyone keep calling the Comedian a rapist and saying "watch out for the rape scene"? I don't mean to sound boorishly insensitive, but he didn't actually rape her. Or was the Australian version toned down?

If you're keen on a new rape scene for your files, go see Last House on the Left.

yeah that was uncomfortable. whole theatre got quiet.

So I guess if you tried to rape someone but were stopped by force, you're not a rapist? OK, so he's an attempted rapist.

And I think it was implied that that's just how his character did things. He didn't give a fuck. His crying confession to Moloch included that he "did horrible things to women".

Isn't it an integral character point in the story for 2 characters? I think they covered it well enough without showing explicitly what was going on.

Not at the rape scene, but there was some pretty amazing laughter from people in the audience during inappropriate times when I saw it.

I mean, I am a sick fuck and have a pretty high tolerance, but I think the fact that the chick was supposed to be 17 and it was just so...long...my roommate and I both found ourselves like looking away and hiding our face.

was the Nite Owl character supposed to look like Clark Griswold when he wasn't in costume? I mean, there was no way that's accidental, right?

I also didn't have much of a problem with the changes to the ending. In all, it was a pretty good movie, but I kept getting the feeling that if I hadn't read the book, I'd just be confused by a lot of the shit they were showing.

The opening credits might have been my favorite part of the movie. Between that and the Dawn of the Dead remake opening, I'll totally go see the first ten minutes of anything he puts out.

I can't remember the opening of 300, though.

yeah, but I mean in the movie.

Especially when he's at dinner and wearing a bowtie and the glasses.

I'm not sure if the Directors cut made much of a difference but i really enjoyed this. I was fine with the changes as well.

Looking forward to watching the Director's Cut DVD tomorrow. I liked the movie a lot in the theatre, & I keep hearing that this new version is even better.

Didn't see it in the theaters, but it came in Netflix last week. I was pretty impressed with how much of the comic came through, the scenes I remembered most were all there. It seems to me that it'd be absolutely incoherent if you hadn't read it though.

Having never read this book, nor much a comic book person I enjoyed it and the wife too. Knowing the story beforehand would have helped watching it, but it played out well enough paying close attention. Without reading this thread, Cotton's Griswold was spot on my first impression but it dissipated the further along the movie went. I guess the costume alleviated that. I sorta felt stoned thinking I was watching a 70's movie borrowing technology from now to make it then. At least that was my explanation for some of the dated looking sets versus action involved. A much better genre film than we expected all in all. Oh, and Buchanan's impersonator sucked, Clift was good. There were other bad attempts but all suggestive anyway. So not much a bother.

As mentioned before, that rape scene, bad(with wife next to you "all men are dirt bad"), but nothing like Irreversible bad(I could not even make it through that one).
