For what it's worth, I'll be pulling for you guys this year. I hope Neuheisel can bring it together there. USC has had it far too easy in SoCal for far too long. You guys SHOULD take some of their recruits on a regular basis.

Also, the PAC 10 desperately needs another team to step up and be a challenge to win the conference.

Oregon and Oregon State have done pretty well. Washington was great in the early part of the decade until the Neuheisel/March Madness fiasco.
USC has only won four outright conference titles this decade, they have tied three times, Wazzu 2002, Cal 2006, Arizona State 2007.

So they've won or tied 7 of 8 seasons? I'd still call that domination. ALso, when was the last time USC wasn't picked to win the conference. Perception is reality to many and most people perceive the PAC 10 as USC and everyone else. (Just speaking generally, I don't get down on the conference like some)

UCLA has a ton of history and they have been mediocre to wretched in football (sorry harry) since they last won the conference a decade ago. Having them good again only serves to raise the profile of the conference immensely.

I think the same could be said for the Big 12 this decade. Oklahoma has 6 titles, and the conference has become OU/Texas versus everyone else.

Or the SEC. Fla, LSU, then one from among Auburn, Bama, UGA, & Tenn.

Most conferences, in fact, are dogs, after a top three or so.

Sorry? The state of UCLA football (other than the tribal-dance stomping of the Toe jams three years ago) has been heartbreaking. That it return to its glory (with a great tradition in football that's faded in the last ten years) is my fervent prayer every night before I go to bed. I detest USC and all it represents. I hope Petey boy winds up in prison for all the corruption that never quite gets addressed....

Not this year, but next year. We have really good QB's and finally something that almost resembles an O-line... I think we've set records in QB sacks and (low) average yards per rush in the last couple of years. Brutal, it's been brutal.

the pac-10 bowl record in most years speaks to the conference's strength. however, the conference needs to get some better damn bowl tie-ins...Sun Bowl, Holiday Bowl, Emerald Bowl? cmon. The 2nd and 3rd and 4th place Pac-10 teams get really weak post-season exposure due to that.

USC will continue to dominate until they get hit with massive NCAA sanctions. 75% of the pac-10 talent comes from California...most from So Cal. Obviously it's rough to get kids to leave there and come to Pullman, Corvallis, Eugene, Tuscson, etc.

I love how only certain schools commit infractions... They happen everywhere. I'm sure one day, even, it will come out that the Obner-sainted Richt, & the apples of the college basketball world's eye, Krzyzewski & Knight, were not unbesmirched, as assumed.

John Wooden , the Greatest Coach of All Time, had a little success, never broke the rules, and had most of his players graduate. Did I mention he was the Greatest Coach of All Time?

The Pac-10 is still the Big-10's bowl slot against the Big 12 in the Alamo Bowl, and supposedly the Insight Bowl is upping the amount of money they put out to surpass the Holiday Bowl in payout.

I read it on the Huskerpedia message board this morning, they were discussing Big 12 Bowl game options. There are some folks who would rather see Nebraska continue to beat mediocre Big Ten teams when they happen to land in San Antonio rather than face a quality Pac-10 club. They tend to be the folks with an East Coast Bias.

Also, it wouldn't hurt the PAC-10 to grab two of the either Utah, Boise St, or BYU and start having Conference Championship.

Speaking of which, with regards to Promethium's post about 3 other teams tying USC for the conference title, if they did have a championship game how many titles would USC have?

If they structured it like the ACC, it's possible USC would've played Wazzou, Az St, or Cal again in the championship.

I think you mentioned it.

Also, fuck you Monty.

Until the day Richt gets popped for ANYTHING, keep his name out of your mouth. But hey, it's you, never miss a chance to put in a dig at the SEC.

Just give in to it's greatness man. It'll make you feel better.

talk about it every year and nothign ever happens. it would be cool to see, at least in football. these schools might have some problems in the other sports, though.

Keep fucking DREAMING dude. Every single one of those players was paid more than you and I combined will make this year by one of UCLA's Construction Magnate Boosters Papa Sam Gilbert.

I've always thought BYU, Utah and/or Fresno State would be a great choice. They have had some success in other sports like Basketball and have been more than willing to play Pac-10 Teams. The only problem with BYU is there no sunday rule.

Walton had to clean the pool and "date" the daughter to stay in the Bel Air house... was it so wrong? And while Sammy was a stong influence and suipporter (and never PAID money), it's nothin' like the Reggie Bush tradition. How old are you anyway? Children like you shouldn't know about Sam Gilbert.

Did I mention Wooden was the Greatest Coach of All Time?

Not hard to be the GOAT when people are paying the best players to come there :)

Actually, I don't think there is a way to argue against the greatness of Wooden...I do think it is possible to get caught up in what David Maraniss calls The Fallacy of the Innocent Past.

I'm 32 - but I make it my bidness to know stuff like that, Harry. Keep trying to put ol gar in a box.

Admit it, more than three articles of clothing hang in your closet that can be described as "madras."

Also: didn't the segregation of the SEC campuses, & de facto segregation at most in the urban north, a la the west coast schools to poach talent more easily? (Alcindor at UCLA, Bill Russell at San Francisco (!), etc.)

I technically only own one pair of patch madras pants, but I have some plaid shirts and even a plaid cotton tie.

Other than Alcindor (and an occasional Lucius Allen) the great majority of Wooden's players were from CA. And, money shmoney, segregation (remember Wooden was mostly post-Texas Western anyway), or even the glitzy west LA atmosphere, after a championship or two ALL players wanted to play for the Wizard of Westwood. Recruiting became pretty easy, the genious was choosing only the guys that would fit into the system.

How many pairs do you share with Bloor & Derris? (Granted, even for their height, the madras would be shorts on you, pants on them.)
