The Missouri AD has came out and said they have no interest in the SEC, but this might be an attempt to not publicly bag for an invite like they did with the Big Ten last year.

It might just be an addition of two teams, but we'll find out more tomorrow when the SEC Presidents get together to meet about A&M.

I really don't see the SEC taking Missouri. Can't see why the SEC would want to do that.

That's easy: It gets you into the Kansas City and St. Louis markets for TV and recruiting.

Nebraska gets some great talent from the KC area and the rest of the Show Me State, so I can't say it doesn't produce some top notch talent, but those tv markets aren't all that great for college football. Missouri begged the Big Ten for a spot and they went with the Cornhuskers, since the Huskers are pretty popular in KC and the Illini already have a nice base of fans in St. Louis.
Mizzou would be winning the lottery with an SEC invite, but only Arkansas would really gain anything by having the Tigers of Columbia join the SEC.

I'm telling y'all, Missouri is the most redneck state in the country.

Six of the ten highest rated college football games last season were SEC games and you're telling me that it wouldn't be advantageous to add the #21 and #31 media markets into that already huge ratings base?

Plus Mizzou is a large school with (I'm assuming) a large alumni base who would demand a better program if they were competing with the best of the best; look at South Carolina for an example of how that can work out.

If we assume that expansion will ultimately be 16 teams, FSU & A&M make the most sense for the first 2 spots. Then you're looking at 2 additional teams, and I don't think Mizzou's mediocre at best program is really worth those slots (even if I concede your gaining valuable media markets argument). Not to mention that the Big 10 passed on them and I don't think Slive wants to look like he's taking their left overs when he's in command of the preeminent conference in football.

A&M was rejected by the SEC. I think they failed to secure a 14th member or find a school who would grovel for the bid like the Aggies.
I think they will invite the Aggies as soon as they have another team interested in becoming the 14th member.

Maybe. I also think A&M just threw a hissy fit over the Longhorns having their own network (among other things) and tried to pull a giant F you to Texas. Forget that it almost threw the college football world back into the turmoil that it just dealt with a year ago.

I think the SEC told them to slow their roll and go get their house in order first.

Expansion may still happen in the SEC but the SEC isn't going to do that in a hastily thrown together fashion because A&M is in the corner pouting.

Pretty sure there is a clause in the SEC/ESPN contract that if they expand everything can be renegotiated. If that happens, they'll get a new deal and it will be the biggest thing we've ever seen.

Yeah, A&M totally got a hand to the face and come off looking like a bunch of punks after this.

This year's Horns/A&M Thanksgiving game should have a nice dusting of Shaq's "Tell me how my ass tastes." coming from the the orange and white side of the field.

What's the latest on FAILSU and Clemson rumors?

Was listening to ATL sportstalk yesterday and was informed that in their 115 year history, the USC Cocks have won 10 games only ONCE.

Anyone else think this was a trial balloon where A&M gets all the blame, and when they scoop up these, or some other combination of teams next year Mike Slive will look like a genius?

I never thought it would happen this year - but it gets talk away from suspensions and rampant thuggery and towards the future - gives fans whose team's fortunes are up in the air another reason to rejoice that it is fall, and that life will soon be good again.

I heard it put this way on the raydeeo this morning: "You gotta get divorced before you can get married." The SEC and its Presidents were not about to become entangled in the myriad of negotiations, payouts and possible lawsuits involved in getting A&M or any other school out of their conference affiliations (and the related TV contracts)

So yeah, this will still happen. And my money is still on a stable that will include Mizzou, Virginia Tech and maybe even West Virginia in addition to the Aggies because it's all about eyeballs in front of televisions and advertising dollar bills.

I also read somewhere that there is an agreement that they WILL NOT take a team from a state that already has an SEC school. So, FSU and Clemson are no goes in that scenario. I am sure they could break that agreement by agreeing to make Tebow President4Lif of the SEC or by paying UF 100 KajillionBillionBucks.

That's why I mention VA Tech and West Virginia, schools that get you into the DC and Pittsburgh TV markets respectively instead of those other ACC schools that exist in markets that you already dominate.

Additionally, if Oklahoma is still in the mix, it would apparently 100% have to be accompanied by Oklahoma St. because of political considerations in OK.

If the addition of teams takes the SE out of SEC, then I oppose.

I dunno, I think you can legitimately say the SEC is from the Confederacy and Border States. We should add NC State or Wake just to have a team in all of them.

And like I said, Missouri is WAAAAAYYYY more redneck than most people realize. That place is a little scary.

Yeah, you have a point as long as Kentucky's sitting there. Have to throw the Terps in, too. Maybe I should say, if the addition of teams to the SEC includes teams from free states, then I oppose.

Guy who does http://outkickthecoverage.com was on The Dan Patrick Show this a.m. and made a good case for one or two of the Tobacco Road schools as targets, along w/ A&M and some combination of TX Tech, Va Tech, W. Va. and... damn, I forgot.
The OK/Ok St. package deal kind of negates any advantage of bringing in OSU (2 schools for a 3.8 mill viewership). Talk boiled down to U of Texas very possibly going independent, the Big 12 dying very soon and there being 4 megaconferences - Pac 12, SEC, Big 10 and whoever survives between the ACC and Big East. I'd love to see the Big 10 add Notre Dame, Missouri, Syracuse and Kansas or Pitt.
