Wait.

So, the strippers are being made into objects against their will?

(sigh)

I honestly wanted somebody's opinion about this.

Is someone forcing them to do this? The strippers I've talked to are smart and are doing this temporarily while going through school. They like the easy money and the sense of control they have over the men. In addition, its a way for them to express their sexuality.

Take note: I've only been to a strip club a handful of times, once with my wife even. The experiences were okay though I doubt I'll go again but I don't think its wrong or degrading to women. If anything it gives them an opportunity for enpowerment.

Haq and Katie,

I think what needs to be done is ya'll need to come to Atlanta where Loogar, Bloor and myself will pick you up in a limo and we will do a tour of the best Atlanta strip clubs.

This will be followed by a back room VIP round table discussion at the Cheetah with randomly chosen strippers.

Topics of discussion wil include:

Stripping: The objectification of women or women empowerment?

Strippers in society: What is the role of the stripper in modern society?

Women and Social Norms: How do strippers and female Governors fit in today social structures?

Cocaine: A girls' best friend or worst enemy

G-strings: Velcro or no?

Get Paid!: How to get dat money honey!

Alcohol will be provided of course.

Liking the human form is innate. Feeling entitled to access to your preferred form, when and how you want, without regard to the desires of the actual person inhabiting that form, not so much. Propping up an industry that mostly consists (yes, there are definitely exceptions to all this) of men selling women, particularly economically, emotionally or otherwise vulnerable women , to other men reinforces the notion that women are chips in a game between men, that their femaleness makes them things in a way that men are not things (as Loogar describes his particular adventure there). It also reinforces a belief that men are entitled to sexual access to the women they want on their terms, rather than based on mutual desire, which affects the kind of sex people have in and out of transacted encounters. It’s degrading for all concerned, yes, and it’s especially damaging to the women, who have the short end of the power balance. And yeah, I’ve known more than a few strippers.

Well stated bluejayway. To be fair, you've probably had to articulate this more than I have.

ok, i'm sure in the sick twisted minds of the obnerites this may deserve an independent thread of discussion, but i'll put it here while we are talking about sexual matters (well i assume we are, i only read the first and last page though).

What the heck is the big deal with "does she spit or swallow"? maybe i just don't have the correct perspective on this, but really...i've already shot my load, what do i care what happens immediately after that?

First off..yeah, some girls strip through school...very few. They all will tell you they are working their way through school, escpcially if you look like a young college type. It's an easy way to make you relate to them so they can get more money from you. They'll tell you anything they think you would like to hear if you keep putting money in their g-string. Hell, give 'em a script and they'll read it.

Is it objectification? Yeah. So what? I don't live in a world of happy trees and pink sunsets. I live in a world where no matter what job you do, for the most part there is some asshole taking his living out of your hide. At least a stripper is in charge and has WAY more power than the customers drooling and opening their pocketbooks for a little bit of fantasy.

I guess, to me, stripping ain't the most uplifting way a women can make a buck, but considering most strippers would otherwise be flipping burgers, working retail or just getting the crap beaten out of them when their boyfriends are outta jail, it could be worse for 'em. And music mags and fasion mags that most folks on here likely read at least a little bit have way more to do with objectification than strip clubs.

Personally, I'm pissed because after society treated women like objects and forced them to conform to a confusing and everchanging standard of physical beauty, we seemed to start figuring out that it was wrong. So, instead of treating women differently, we just seem to have decided as a society to start treating men with the same crap, thus all the workout shit, chest shaving, and new grooming products and fasions directed at males these days.

Shit...I thought only chicks would fall for that crap, but I guess I was wrong.

Damn...haven't been to a strip club in a couple years, but this thread is giving me some motivation.

Oh...and I love the strip club in Atlanta with all the fat chicks and old ladies that stays open when a lot of the bars close. Can't remember the name, but I've been there a couple of times and had a good time.

That, sir, is the Clairmont Lounge, where you can have a 300 lb stripper pummel your noggin with her breastages, if for some reason you so desire.

Jeebus H. Christ, wouldja look at this thread... Damn, you mow the lawn and you miss a LOT!!

ok, so... you're ok with objectifying people? or is it that you're not ok with objectifying people but you do it anyway because the world is bad and what does it matter if you objectify people?

I don't mind because I have more pressing things to worry about and don't see strip clubs as one of the main threats facing society today. Even in the area of objectifying women I see strip clubs pretty far down the ladder.

Most men enjoy the objectification of women. Is it right? Probably not. But, then again, most things that I find fun are less than best for society, so I don't get all bent out of shape about it.

I also tend to think that in a sexual way, many women and men enjoy the fantasy asdpects of objectifying one another. As long as you are able to respect the opposite sex and engage them mentally on a regualr basis, I see no harm in a little fantasy now and then.

[jr. college philosophy course]
but if one objectifies said gray matter . . . what we have is a Cartesian dilemma, or perhaps a Platonic one, in which the world of the Ideal & the world of the Actual (or mind vs body, to close the chiasmatic analogy) are at odds, for whilst it is indeed gray matter, it is matter, and not something rather more inchoate, making one yet still a materialist rather than an immaterialist in its pursuit . . .
[/jr. college philosophy course]

Good lord, sometimes I think I could give Monty a run for his money. Or at least a run for his blowhardiness.
