i saw the new friday the 13th last night. it wasn't horrible, somewhat funny, i liked it a lot more than the halloween remake, and of course there's the obvious sequel setup.

I was interested in what you'd think. I'm 100% NOT a fan of the horror genre in general, but love Friday the 13th/Jason Voorhies. I was curious as to what diehard 13th fans would be saying about this Michael Bay produced rehashing of the "franchise".

i thought it wasn't going to be really gory at first cos the first "kill" they cut away from quickly but it's got some decent stuff in it, about as gory as the TCM remake but of course there's more kills in it. i think jason looked a little better when he had the "bag head". his hair was a little distracting. there's a lot of tittays in it too.

does anyone now the documentary it might get loud? I discoverd it in the programme of the "berlinale", which is a film festival right now. It's about the history of the electric guitar and contains a jam with jack white, jimmy page and teh edge... the description sounds like fun. (not only this jam)

Saw Gran Torino last weekend (we had actually gone to the theater to see Slumdog Millionaire) but they had STB on the listings online.

It was ok, typical Eastwood directorial fare where he oversimplifies everything to make a larger point. I enjoyed the Eastwood character simply because well written out racism is funny as shit.

"What're you spooks doin'?" Seriously, i lollered.

Watched "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" yesterday and I'm as pissed off about the greed and selfishness of my generation as I've ever been.

I definitely learned some new racist slurs - spooks, zipperheads, zips, swamprats, etc.

Also, this joke:

Quote:
Walt Kowalski: Oh, I've got one. A Mexican, a Jew, and a colored guy go into a bar. The bartender looks up and says, "Get the fuck out of here."

Finally watched the whole "Fast, Dirty, Crazy". Documentary of Guilty Connector. I think the whole thing is posted in bits on youtube though I could be wrong. Decent flick. So strange to see how quiet and reserved he is off stage.

Saw The Break-Up on DVD the other night. Not bad, but the ending was kind of sad. Loved seeing fat thirtysomething Ralphie and also The Old 97's. D'Onofrio was underutilized.

How this movie attained any sort of following is beyond me. Perhaps the worst plot structure and editing I've ever seen. Literally unwatchable. I turned it off about 3/4's through. Avoid at all cost.

Watched W last night. Entertaining as only Stone can provide. Brolin was really great, but the portrayal of Condi was truly awful, not in an accuracy sense, just in terms of performance. Ghastly and very distracting.

i went to a best picture nominee marathon yesterday and saw them all.

milk was pretty good, but i say that as much out of admiration as shock since i am not a gus van sant fan. the reader really impressed me and even held enough "oh my god" moments. benjamin button was pretty good, but some time could've been cut. (that was the only one i'd already seen.) slumdog was cheesy and predictable and i still enjoyed it, despite plodding away a few times. and i had a lot of trouble getting into frost/nixon, but that may have just been because i'd been in a theater for 12 hours at that point. even though i wasn't crazy about it then, it's the one that's stuck with me most the next day.

We watched this last weekend and I actually agree with you on all points. Personally, I was surprised that I was as entertained as I was by it since my wife basically had to shame me at gunpoint to watch it.

That's the whole point of my post. It wasn't fun.

I did, however, have fun watching Overnight, the documentary on Troy Duffy, the director of The Boondock Saints. He's even a bigger asshole than I expected.

Its the same phenomenon that begat The Crow and countless other cult hits. Plus, support from Hot Topic merchandising doesn't hurt. I like to refer to Boondock as Scorcese light.
