But then how would the network producers get their "respectable" honey-shots? They can't (in good conscience... not that many of the producers are regular church-goers, or something) just linger on the cheer-babes for minutes at a time. And to throw a cooler of ice-water on them would be in especially poor taste... So, they have to improvise.

As it is, DAT Jewess Bonnie Bernstein was looking particularly fetching reporting from the field-level at Lambeau this afternoon.

[easterbrook]I have just provided a perfectly legit excuse for obner.org to feature a shot of Ms. Bernstein.[/easterbrook]

He's also a liberal, but works for Brookings and The New Republic, each of which is fairly ambivalent about progressive politics.

I will not quibble with his association with The Atlantic Monthly, though - I subscribe. I love its variety, and (quite honestly) absolutely fair treatment of any subject (namely, human). The Atlantic is also the last place where Hitchens remains QUAL.

Easterbrook's best catch*:

Literary Cheerleader of the Week

Only cheerleaders who list serious books or authors as their favorites are eligible. This week's literary cheerleader is Janey of the Falcons, who says the last book she read is Ulysses by James Joyce. This book is considered by many critics the greatest English-language novel of the 20th century, but TMQ is not all that sure if anyone has ever actually finished Ulysses. The novel is very long and obscurantist. College kids love to praise this work for its word puzzles and inner dialogue, but how many have read Ulysses as opposed to, say, read about it? TMQ guesses not one reader in 10 who starts Ulysses reaches the end. (In the end, Bloom acquires super-powers and stops an alien attack against Earth -- see, nobody ever gets to that part.) But we'll take it on faith that Janey read Ulysses.

According to her team bio, Janey has won several national talent competitions such as Showstopper, and her most prized possession is her day planner. That's what the protagonist of Ulysses needed! If Bloom only had a Franklin Day Planner, the entire novel could have been avoided.

And since this wouldn't be Easterbrooking without cheese-cake, here's some to bite down on:

And, her biograph at the Falcons's cheer-babe page:

I think that Krauth's apprehension at the Falcs having to fly west, on a short practice week as it were, says it all as to why he and the Krew were silent.

They may be big-mouth, big-drinking, bratty Rebs, but they know how to play their cards. You have to give them that. And, when their hand looks weak, they don't boast.

Yeah, I saw this one coming.....And we still almost won. The Seahawks looked like world beaters in that second quarter but dude, can a team fold up more in the second half?
That Seahawks have a real problem with putting people away.....

First, the appelation "cheer-babe" requires this guy from ever being considered a good writer. EVER. It grates on me every time i read it.

2nd, this bitch is from Jackson, MS, lived in Carrollton, GA and goes to WEST GEORGIA!! Not only has she never even heard of Ulysses, if she can read at all, I will send you a mix of your choice.

I am 'meh' to cheer-babe, and its cousin, cheer-stud - which he usesto describe the more enlightened squads for team such as the Baltimore Ravens, who have cheerers of each gender - but to replicate the feel, I default to it.

Also, I think it should be easy enough for you, and/or one or more others of your posse, to find this woman and get the truth... At which point, you can send me your personal best-of mix of either Drive-by Truckers or Ike Reilly.

Yeah, tell me about it. They did that to us 3 or 4 times last season, but lost. The win is an improvement, but they do need to learn to step on the throat a bit harder.

Vick did not look very good in this game. He missed a couple of wide open receivers on long balls that would have gone for TDs. Hope his hammy isn't too bad for next week.

Jenkins should have caught that ball going down the sideline when he broke coverage.

I though Vick threw the ball fairly well. Definitely nothing to write home about but he came out pretty well in the 3rd. Word is, the hammy is more cramp than pull so he should be OK.

Yall's defense shut down Warrick Dunn; I thought we should have put in more Duckett.

Duckett was definitely moving the ball more than Dunn. I was actually pretty impressed with Seattle's D all day--it's the best game I've seen them play in a long while---maybe word of Ray Rhodes stroke got them fired up.

Vikings fan here.

I haven't read this thread in its entirety (in truth, I am avoiding most sports related writing today) so I hope that I'm not repeating anyone else's opinion.

After week 1, this was my reaction: what a strange aberration! Daunte looked so good in the preseason. The defense appears better. My only consolation is that the Vikings still had a chance to win it with two minutes left in the game.

After week 2, my reaction: this will be a long season. My only consolation is that this loss counts only as one game. That performance deserved to result in chalking up three games in the "L" column.

What is the earliest you can hit the panic button?

I think that they meant to add "in the same season".

Remember, in the seventies, when the Pack was slipping, the Vikes went to all those Super Bowls.

In the eighties, they remained solid.

Then, in the nineties, each team played pretty well, season-to-season.

I view this with a STRONG sense of schadenfeude. This is what you get when you jettison the league's best player. Sorry, you deserve it. I hope Red McCombs moves the team to San Antonio or LA, and Mike Tice is severely beaten about the chest neck and head.

I think that the Saints - on a temporary basis, at least, and for the next three-to-four seaons - might beat the Vikes to San Antone.

And L.A. really doesn't want an NFL team. Right now, they have the best college football team in the nation - Southern Cal - and three games on Sunday (that all finish by 3 p.m.).

I think Salt Lake City or Las Vegas would be a much more likely destination for a transplanted MN eleven, then... And since I think the NBA might be the only league with the temerity to put a team in Vegas - good on the NBA for that, by the way - it should be Salt Lake.

In such case, beer sales will end at five mintues into the first quarter.

Randy may be the league's best player, but I'm no fan of his antics. A lot of talented athletes aren't worth the distraction in my opinion (see T.O. or Kobe Bryant). The Vikings weren't exactly setting the league on fire the past couple of seasons with Moss on the team.

And, FYI, Red McCombs no longer owns the team, so San Antonio is out of the picture for the Vikings. The Saints, on the other hand.....

i think TO is worth the antics if you have a good team.

he (unlike Moss) gives 100% on the field and makes everyone around him better.

have you ever seen Moss throw a block on a LB?
