I'm just fucking with you. But just as an FYI, the majority of this country have practically zero experience of the second language. Where I am, you would hear something aboriginal followed by Low German before you'd hear La anything.

His first album is also pretty great, fyi.

So I've decided there are only three songs on here that haven't completely kicked my ass yet ("Louise", "Nothing", and "Never a Forced Smile") and I don't skip those. I could still see "Never a Forced Smile" and "Nothing" tapping me on the shoulder and then kicking my ass at some point in the future. "Louise" isn't bad but is easily my least favorite.

So surprise surprise, I've given it a few more listens and "Never a Forced Smile" has joined the rest of the songs that kick my ass. "Louise" is far from bad. The vocals on it are actually pretty impressive. It's just a little repetitive to me and I prefer the songs with strings to the organ backing on "Louise." "Nothing" is actually a pretty good song, it just doesn't feel like something out of the reach of someone like Damien Jurado (who I like plenty) so it doesn't really blow me away like the other songs.

Glad to hear more people liking this. I'm not expecting anyone else to call it album of the decade but I'll be interested in hearing how it does grow on people with more listens.

"Never a Forced Smile" was actually my favorite from the get go oddly enough (after Time Forgot) and I had Louise pegged as a 5 star song as well on first listen, and revisiting

For those half as obsessed as I am **high fives Squirggle**, there's a radio show you can stream here in which he counts down his top ten songs and covers a few big country songs including ones by Lefty Frizzell, George Jones and the Louvin Brothers.

I'm amazed how this just continues to grow and grow and grow on me. I've probably listened to this close to 40 times in the last week and a half and I like it more with each listen. The only reason I listen to anything else is the backlog of stuff I've bought but hadn't listened to you yet and fear that I will completely piss off Fem G if I play it anymore than I already do.

Wife had a VERY sore throat last night, woke up at 4am and sent me to the store for some medicine. Once I got home I just changed my shirt and drove in to work 3 hours earlier than usual. With really, really good albums I tend to imprint them with whatever I'm doing when I hear them one really good time at about this stage, where I know the words but none of it is overplayed yet. I think this morning's 5:30 ride in was it with this album. Indirect grey light, empty rural 2 lane roads, a shitload of turkeys in the fields, and playing each song twice - once to sing the main part and once to sing just the harmonies. "Travel light and freely, won't you John?" Ugh.

Well, the 7 or 8 turkeys that were RIGHT NEXT TO THE ROAD as I came around a bend at 45 weren't boring, but most everything else is. One of those fuckers was all "fanned out" too, so I got the full butthole presentation as an added bonus.

Wierd, wouldn't play in Firefox, but it does play in good old IE6

Is this only available as either an import, or from the record label in Canudian dollars?

I searched around a bit and couldn't find an non-import version cd or vinyl. If anyone else has looked and had better luck let us know. I haven't ordered yet but will probably order directly from the label. The $20 price includes shipping from Canada so that seems pretty reasonable. I guess what's holding me up is I'm still trying to decide how much of his catalog to order. He's got another country solo album from last year (which I haven't heard) and a what looks like a one-off collaboration called Daniel, Fred and Julie (or something like that) which is also country. The Julie is Julie Doiron. I don't know who the Fred is. I'm leading toward just ordering all three but I just paid a a five figure tax bill, monies a little tight and I'm not sure I really need that last one.

Glad you're enjoying it. I am so obsessed that when I was out running errands all day yesterday without it, I ended up streaming a few songs on my phone.

I sent the record label an email over the weekend asking for info on how to do multiple orders and paying in Canudian $$. Just got a response saying they will sell me the 2 Romano cd's for $35 Can., payment through paypal which apparently has an option for currencies other than USD.

Frederick Squire put out an album last year called March 12 that made it into my top 50. There's some good stuff on it - very much influenced by Neil Young (circa-Zuma).

Sleep Beneath The Willow disc arrived today.
Daniel not only produced and recorded it, he played everything except violin, banjo, and the obvious female backing vox. He did have some help from his brother engineering and Dan Weston mixed & mastered it. By the looks of the photograph it was recorded on a Ampex 16-track.

Track #4 -- Lost (for as long as you live)
- the melody was taken from Smokey Stove's Sometimes You Just Can't Win. (1962)
