This.

I like the "fuck it" nature of the Coburn plan and Tom Coburn in general though.

In a land of pinhead buffoons (DC) the clubfooted knave is king?

Example #1:

Dr. Coburn proudly proclaims he is 'pro-life' and that 'all life is sacred'.
He also advocates the death penalty for abortionists.

As a family practice and Gyn physician Dr. Coburn admits he has performed abortions.
Evidently Dr. Coburn has no problem with claiming 'all life is sacred' even while advocating the death penalty for those that perform abortions.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Example #2:

While representing Oklahoma's 2nd District in Congress in Coburn protested NBC's airing of the historically significant movie "Schindler's List". Coburn said in airing the movie NBC had taken television "to an all-time low, with full-frontal nudity, violence and profanity". He also said the broadcast should outrage parents and decent-minded individuals everywhere.

Conservative super-stars William Bennett and Jack Kemp took Coburn to task for those remarks, with Kemp calling Coburn's remarks "a huge mistake" and Bennett calling them "very unfortunate and foolish".

Sen. Alfonse D'Amato, Republican Senator from New York said of Coburn:

"To equate the nudity of Holocaust victims in the concentration camps with any sexual connotation is outrageous and offensive. I'm particularly embarrassed they were made by a member of my own party."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Example #3:

During a debate with opponent Brad Carson on KRMG radio in Tulsa Coburn played the "God card", labeling the race as simply a matter of "a battle between good and evil" with himself portrayed as the "good" and evidently by default casting Carson in the role of "evil".

As a firestorm of controversy developed over Coburn's "good against evil" gambit his opponent Brad Carson was quoted as saying:

"The battle with al-Qaida is a battle of good versus evil. Osama bin Laden is evil, not your political opponents. This isn't a political jihad; this is an election."

I just had a semi political conversation with my MiL.

She "doesn't believe the criticism of Obama is mostly driven by race" because she "likes Herman Cain"

And "wishes that our country were more respected around the world," "wants term limits," and "doesn't like all that spending," but "if you were older like us, you'd support the Medicare Prescription Drug Program."

Oh yeah, and she totally refused to even grasp, much less believe that A) Reagan had foisted the largest tax increase in American history upon us and B) that the 2 largest expansions of government spending since the New Deal were foisted upon us by GWB in the form of the aforementioned prescription drug plan and Dept. Of Homeland Security.

But also "hates that Total Fraud Rick Perry"

After (humblebrag) getting a new pair of AL Spkr of teh House cufflinks and being subjected to a debate of Mtgy City Council candidates, I think I might volunteer for a lobotomy.

The Herman Cain love truly baffles me. I hear it all the time from people I know. Apparently, Godfather's Pizza is much better than I originally believed.

Cain is PychObama -- a vessel into which right wingers can dump all of their Hope and Change (that we can stop giving all of my tax money to the blacks and the immigrants because a black guy said so. )

All the Godfathers closed around here...but I used to like the pizza they had with pepperoni and banana peppers and jalapenos.

Also, the reason our government is so fucked up is that Loog's MiL is probably just as informed or actually even more informed than the average American. Which is why we can have all the technical debates about positions and issues we want but in the end that shit barely registers in an election.

Also, I can't think of Godfathers without thinking of the one armed waitress who worked at the one I used to go to and claimed that she was Bon Jovi's girlfriend.

It reminds me of Ms. Pacman - because the only time we went there regularly was when that became popular. I was 4 or 5 and lived in Wash. State.

But I guess it's a good metaphor - a shitty version of a popular food, that should be too big to fail. Herm Cain - Fuck Yeah!

He's the only significant person in the Republican caucus with the balls to stand up to Grover Norquist on taxes and is also a friend and confidante to one Barack Hussein Obama. In politics, your most diametrically opposed ideological enemy can occasionally be your friend especially given the level of discourse.

Apropos of nothing, but I saw that poll number today and it reminded me of your earlier pronouncement. Damn, holy fucking Nosedive Torpedo Express of Failure.

I find him a fascinating head case... I mean something is seriously wrong with the guy. His squirming at that first debate because he couldn't frame the words Oromneycare and looked like he'd been caught eating his own poop. And he was such a "fresh face" as gov... And the sissy husband of Brunhilda, and the fag governor of tejas, and the porko gov from jersey and newt the jewlery queen, and dull normal Insantorum, and the pizza houseni ... well, I mean really, this is all too fun. Palin was just poisonous and annoying. These guys are a laff riot. Obama really should lose this election... but at this distance (anything can happen) I say he goes 8 points over Romney.

Not ready for prime time. A primary like this is based on "buzz" and "creative talking points" you know like "How's that Hope-y, Change-y thing workin out for ya?"

And he's not really that guy. He's "the dude who could get elected in a blue state" which in the next era will be like Democratic Southern Gov from 76-2008 -- instant buzz and credibility even if you're a slope headed troglodyte.

I met him around 2007, I guess, and while I agree that he is a Giant douche, I have a modicum of respect for him because, when I asked him why the House wasn't seriously doing anything about spending, he told me that it was because the Medicare and SS programs weren't really going to be in trouble until around the 2012 election, so that's when you would see real action instead of talking. I had to nod and agree that he made some sense. My wife still calls him the "Manager of the Asshole Store", which I think she got from the Daily Show but seems apt.

for the record, he doesn't represent our district.

Why would you respect him for lying to your face especially with regards to Social Security?
