The what about women objectifying themselves in dance clubs. Or bars. Or MTV. Or Cosmopolitan. Or Rolling Stone. Or Girls Gone Wild. Or amateur porn sites.

You have to make a trip to a strip club, plop your money down and go inside to get down and dirty in the objectification.

What about all the images and ideals that inundate men, women and especially young girls each day in fierce competition for our entertainment dollar?

Wouldn't these be worse than a dark bar across town that young girls can't even go into?

so do I objectify women everyday when I look at them and think they are sexy without ever talking to them? I am just not sure if objectifying something is really that wrong.

Yes yes, it's all a rich tapestry.

Doesn't mean you should actively be a part of any of it if you can help it.

when I look in the mirror and say - "you sexy bitch, get naked" - am I objectifying myself or is it only when I commence the flogging of the bishop?

Yeh, me too. We're living in a strange time when voluntary sexual objectification equals female empowerment. It's an uncomfortable phenomenon to witness from my perspective - and, superficially at least, it seems like a step back into the dark ages - but I think its something that Western women are going to have to go through in order to finally reach some of the feminist ideals that were set out 30-some years ago. At least I hope that's what's going on - because it'll be hugely depressing if so many fine women fought for so many long years just so their progeny could gain the right to shake their asses for money.

um, i didn't read this all the way through but my thoughts on strip clubs: it doesn't bother me. a woman has a choice to do what she wants, and if that's what she chooses to do, fine so be it. if i had a s/o, i wouldn't care if he went to a strip club. you're just wasting your money to get teased. but it's fun, i don't mind going to strip clubs every now and then with a big group of people for a special occasion.

some days it's hard to have faith.

I'm just curious if when I look in the mirror undressed and think" hmm not so bad today" does that mean I'm objectifying myself?

hehe

Candy is working in tandem with Sapphire from Big Daddy's and some 6 foot 5 behemoth from the Boys Will Be Girls joint across the street.

i'm honestly scared to go to one for fear that the girls will be these toothless desperate meth addicts and then i'll never want to repeat the experience, and also the girls here are required by law to cover all the naughty bits (although i think that i'm allowed to have MY nipples exposed). i've been told that the place to start is tampa? looking for top shelf here.

edit- man i can't spell to save my life today.

there's one me and some guys from work used to go to and there were some good looking girls there but after awhile the quality started dropping. the last time we were there a stripper in her mid-30's came up to my friend and asked him for a piece of gum, so he gives her one and she goes "ya know, i don't normally chew gum."...."why?"....and then she pulled down her lower lip and she was missing about 4 or 5 of her front teeth.

I would deeply appreciate Jen's cure for cancer. You know cause like it's taken so many of our loved ones and all. I might be able to scare up some funding. I'd have to stay hands-off the project, though.

but if one objectifies said gray matter . . . what we have is a Cartesian dilemma, or perhaps a Platonic one, in which the world of the Ideal & the world of the Actual (or mind vs body, to close the chiasmatic analogy) are at odds, for whilst it is indeed gray matter, it is matter, and not something rather more inchoate, making one yet still a materialist rather than an immaterialist in its pursuit . . .

not Platonic really. He would consider any substantiation of mind as partaking in the Form of Mind. He does consider soul and body seperate, and supervenient on the mind/soul is its ability to access Ideal; but it is not itself ideal. So the mind is really just another approximation to him, regardless of how ephemeral it might seem to us.

The real interesting point in Plato's stance is, if the mind is imbued with such special ability, is it not in some way a part of the universe of Forms? Or is there some -Form- in any individual mind that grants it access to the Higher world? To make any individual's mind *this* special in the framework seems to negate the existence of individuals: it would seem if everyone has their own mind, each mind is just an example of -Mind-, the Form.

Or maybe, there is no -Mind- Form. Maybe the mind is the only thing that does not partake of a larger Form, precisely b/c it is itself Form in everyone.

wow. I've never really thought of Plato in this way, things kind of hash out. What are your thoughts C_D? I'm not quite sure how Cartesian Interactionism would work itself out, although that may only need some empirical evidence to complete the story.
