According to an unnamed source to the AP Sam Perlozzo is out as Orioles manager. As an Orioles fan, its easy to point the finger at the guy, but honestly I don't know how much of it is really his fault. As any Orioles fan will probably tell you, the problem lies with Angelos and the front office. We have talent, but don't know what to do with it. Markakis and Bedard are probably 2 of the most highly rated players that we've had for awhile, and all hope really rests on their shoulders.

The bullpen is for shit. Our hitting sucks (last in AL with HRs), and we can't seem to pull the trigger even when we're up late in the game. Yikes.

Girardi is apparently the dream manager. I really don't know whether he can pull the team together. Trade Miggy (a far cry from what I was saying beginning of the season) and rebuild...yet again. We can't contend with the Yankems or Sox with the team not pulling together as a unit.

Ok, Orioles rant done.

Phillies want to win it, and they've been surging at the right time. Whether or not they can is yet to be determined. Though I had predicted before the season that it would be Phillies, Braves, Mets, Marlins, Nationals.

Surge all you want. You and I both know they'll blow it in September.

By all intents and purposes the Mets should be running away with this thing. They are playing bad baseball right now. The Braves can still do it if they figure out their Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde starting rotation and if Andruw Jones will WAKE THE FUCK UP! He's having the worst season of his career right now.

Problem with the Braves is that their rotation was going to be jekyl and hyde all season long. It was inevitable. It was Smoltz and Hudson and pray for Chuck James.

But they can still do it, and smart money would say that there is a 71% chance that the Phillies will blow it. I just happen to thing that this is Philly's year. If they don't do it now, then they won't for a long time. And it'll be the country bumpkin's (Charlie Manuel) head on a plate. Its known that he's not particular popular with philly fans.

nah. He was just lost on the mound. Who woulda thunk that it would be goofy Roger McDowell to set him right.

Someone, don't remember who, was suggesting that his bad year last year was due to quitting steroids.

Kinda. I've watched the man give up a whopping 9 homers over his last 4 starts not including last night. So I figured that if anybody could beat him up, Cleveland and their hot hitting could.

Zambrano has been seriously filthy lately. He took a no hitter into the 8th inning his last start, and today he has given up 1 hit through six with 11 Ks.

one of my coworkers who's a serious cubs fan is attributing this to the absence of michael barrett.

Well, today is his first start since Barrett was traded. And Zambrano has put up some pretty great numbers the last few years with Barrett catching for him. So tell your co-worker they're full of it.

Conversely, the Padres lead in ERA but are last in AVG (11th in runs scored). Gotta figure respective ballparks figure largely into this scenario.

As it turned out, Granderson's catch proved to be as important as it was impressive.

The center fielder sprinted to his right, jumped in stride and snagged a ball -- with his left armpit over the wall -- to rob Wily Mo Pena of a homer in the fourth.

Doesn't that sentence make it sound like the ball landed in his armpit?
