Cool. I'll have to sequence that (since I already have all the tracks) and see how that goes. Only one track (Bull in the Heather) made my mix (RIP), so it'll be interesting to see what kind of songs draw you (yes, I should know just by looking at titles... but I'm really bad at knowing songs by titles. The only one I can sing off hand from that is Disconnection Notice...)

Lee Hazlewood: RIYL loungy, country kitsch with self deprecating, often ironic lyrics about drinking, women and the downtrodden, sung in baritone.

d/ling this

Could you or anyone else do one for Alejandro Escovedo? I liked everything that I've heard, but it's only "Always a Friend" and that mick jagger cover from years ago.

I can do Escovedo in a couple of days if no one beats me to it. I was trying to think of other things I could do easily. Maybe Terry Callier, Loudon Wainwright III, the Auteurs, Bob Marley (non Legend tracks), and/or Lloyd Cole if there's enough interest in any of those.

Speaking of knobs, I could make a better Sonic Youth selection by picking at random. Where's the EARLY stuff? The first four albums are their best material.

different strokes for different folks.
some people (like you) swear by the early albums
some people swear by the middle albums (for the sake of this argument Sister through Dirty), which would be the larger SY listening population.
Then some people (like me) swear by Experimental Jet Set onward.

When I made my mix (the one that never came to fruition due to technology malfunction) it was definitely skewed toward the latter category (which could probably be split in two, sonically speaking). Although I put earlier cuts on it (as I have a philosophy of only one track from each album).

Sinead O'Connor Tenner
(I specifically did not pull anything off of "I Do Not Want What I Have Not Got" because I'm pretty sure most of you have heard this in its entirety. I couldn't find some of the more obscure tracks I would have liked to have included-- the versions I have are on vinyl and not ripped. I tried to keep it to Sinead originals, but I think she shines on some of the covers too, which is why I included a few)

01- what do you want (emperors new clothes cd single)
02- this is to mother you (gospel oak ep)
03- my lagan love (sean nos nua)
04- whomsoever dwells (theology)
05- just call me joe (the lion and the cobra)
06- ain't it a shame (she who dwells...)
07- til i whisper u something (faith and courage)
08- just like u said it would b (the lion and the cobra)
09- black coffee (am i not your girl?)
10- irish ways and irish laws (silent night cd single)

Peter Murphy Tenner
(Again tried to keep it all Murphy originals, but I did include his cover of Pere Ubu's "Final Solution.")

01- final solution (should the world fail to fall apart)
02- time has got nothing to do with it (love hysteria)
03- disappearing (cascade)
04- a strange kind of love (deep)
05- low room (holy smoke)
06- our secret garden (holy smoke)
07- the line between the devil's teeth (deep)
08- give what he's got (unshattered)
09- socrates the python (love hysteria)
10- roll call (deep)

The hook-laden sounds of 1960s rock bands like the Beatles and the Byrds and the working-class imagery of Bruce Springsteen are combined with the musical traditions of Ireland and the intensity of punk rock by the Saw Doctors. The Saw Doctors were a little-known local bar band in Tuam (pronounced "Chewam") in County Galway when they were invited by Mike Scott to be the opening act on the Waterboys' 1988 tour of Ireland and the United Kingdom. In the decade since, however, the Saw Doctors have emerged as the most successful Irish rock band since U2.

OK, we've all been there, right? Every now and then, you have to skip Early Mass and tend to some pressing bidness- rearranging that crawlspace. A little music always makes the work go better:
