That article is old and as I've said before, it couldn't happen to a worse bunch of people. Fuck 'em.

Funny that's what my Nashville buddies said. Maybe able to pick up a good brand on the cheap if the G continues to go after them.

Well I guess they did it in '09 but they got raided again in August and seized their Rosewood stock. Not a good thing when production is halted. But, yes I heard the owner is a wacko Spector like egomaniac. Still, a great brand with some nice guitars.

Not necessarily guitar related, but my herd grew by one earlier this week when I picked up a 1973 Wurlitzer 200a. No sustain pedal, but came with the original legs, sound was pretty good, not too beat cosmetically, interior was clean, and had been tuned within the last year. A few weak notes makes me think that I'm going to have to make a few strike-line adjustments, but it seems like a relatively easy process. Overall, can't complain for the $350 I shelled out for it.

So I'm looking for a recommendation for a small amp with a decent clean tone that I can run this thing through. I'm on a budget (somewhere $200 and under) so I'm turning my trust to you, the fine folks of Obner, to point me in the right direction.

Those Roland cubes always surprise me with how clean and balanced they sound. -shrug- I assume you want that, right? (A clean keyboard amp, and not a warm guitar tube amp)

Or shit if you could score one, a Roland JC-60.

Ever thought about using a powered/active monitor?
The cost is more, but they can provide punch and clarity.
You can find something decent/used in the $300-350 range ?

Cons: That JC-60 has sweet-ass reverb, and it essentially doesn't lose value from this point on. The powered monitor continues to devalue until it's worth about $50 someday.

Otherwise I'm sure it would work fine. Just another way to get it done, I guess. Also the JC comes with cool points.

Pros: Needed Mixer / Outboard / all the effects one would need that would eclipse the "amp" reverb.

Cons: I had one (Roland) in the late 80's and found them to be limited. One trick pony. I ended up using it for "live" acoustic guitar w/pickup in the hole. This was pre-Fishman days. The amp worked best with sugar/spice sounds. Meat/Potato sounds, not so much.

That being said - has retained its cool asthetic.

I assume Phil has far surpassed me by this point. I barely touched it the last 5 years. Starting to again, though - found some folks to play with, busted out the old Winnie Winston book, and a lot more of it makes sense to me now.

That's great. Keep it up. One of the more "challenging" instruments to master. Our steel player had an old Sho-bud lying around the studio that he didn't play anymore, and I would make attempts at it and fail miserably. When I played, its sound was more akin to a "wounded animal."

He called me from the store to verify the different shipping and billing addresses, I didn't get the voicemail until now somehow (like 10 days later) so he canceled the order. I have to order it again.

Man that's a pisser. re-ordered i'm assuming?

Also, the jazz chorus is a nice amp, but i'd get that other roland because it makes a nice makeshift p.a. in that you can run other instruments into it simultaneously (4 channels), plus a mic for vocals, and it's got verb as well.

I'd buy that in an instant Phil if Wyckoff, NJ wasn't a 2+ hour drive from where I am. Not worth fighting the traffic crazies of North Jersey.

But yeah, something like that would be fantastic, and if it'll work with my pedal steel that's even better.

http://www.pedalsteelamp.com/The_Pedal_ ... /Home.html

My steel player used one last night and said it was "the best rig he'd ever heard"

From the website :
I have been playing the Pedal Steel Guitar for many years now, and like many other pedal players out there I have been primarily playing out of guitar amps, or solid state amps. There are problems with both of these amps. Guitar amps are designed for guitars, not for steel guitars. Yes, the steel is a guitar of sorts, but there is a completely different dynamic range to the instrument which I find that guitar amps are not designed to handle. Guitar amps are designed to break up and sag, because thats exactly what you want it to do while you are playing a guitar. The steel, on the other hand, begs for clarity. A proper steel amp needs to deliver power when the player asks for it, and guitar amps are designed to fight back. The natural compression that the power supply of a guitar amp creates – while great for guitar – is not ideal for the steel.

I'm assuming "pricing available upon request" and "minimum 2 month wait time" means "it costs a fuckload of money." Bet it sounds incredible though.

A friend of mine is going to build me a custom Tele Thinline for about the same price as a Mexi.
(from all Fender parts.)
Really looking forward to this!

That's awesome. Post pics of the progress if you can.

(And maybe consider some non Fender parts, especially pickups. Or not.)

Kyle, i've been thinking about it. You should be able to sell your mav on ebay with a BIN of what you paid for it. Maybe more on craigslist, since it's a lacquer maverick. Then you should turn around and invest in a stage one. They're like $950 new, for a solid 3x4. Designed by Bruce Zumsteg who made Zumsteel. Or get a GFI student model for a hair more, or shop around on the forum for one of those used.

It's time you had a 3x4 and a decent volume pedal to go with it, and don't give me any crap about how you're past the learning curve to use the volume pedal. It's fucking hard to do, but you keep doing it, and then one day you don't sound like a total tard with it. Same thing that happened to us both with picks, although the volume pedal thing took me a long time.

Now i'm desperately working on pick and palm blocking.

I'll say this, playing duets with kaitlin has gotten me sharp because her chords are all over the place. If you didn't download that album i coproduced for her, you should get it and try and play along.
