Why would you respect him for lying to your face especially with regards to Social Security?
this was in 06- I just liked that I could angrily say "you are doing nothing about spending" and he could respond "yep" instead of trying to make up all the things he HAD been doing.

I loved Jon Stewart last night on the debt ceiling, "everyone switched sides, caved, and no one agreed."

My new favorite thing is building a very careful and well sourced case for racism...and then listening to the walk back.

So, spending wasn't problematic under Reagan, we can all agree that the budget was balanced under Clinton, and Bush and the Republicans spent like drunken sailors and that wasn't a problem, right?

But suddenly when you have a black president, "spending" is a problem, but can you point to ONE program you would cut?

"welfare" and "Obamacare"

So, what you're saying is that as long as the spending is by white people (every previous president) for white people (prescription drug coverage, outdated defense programs that go to companies who have retained retired generals who all have Pentagon experience) it's OK, but as soon as it goes to "poor" or "the 52% who "don't pay taxes" (AKA BLACKS) then that's bad?

No, it's not that at all -- I like that Herman Cain.

The 51% Zombie Lie.

It's true, if you don't consider payroll taxes to be taxes. If you don't consider sales-tax -- our most regressive tax -- to be a tax. If you don't consider that the 47% of single filers in 2009 who didn't pay any federal income tax was as high as it were due the Bush recession ('07-'08).

In reality, 86% of people pay taxes. The 14% who don't? The elderly, & the infirm. & Rick Warren wants to put the screws to 'em. ('Cause that would be the Christian thing: "Blessed are the rich, for they are strong of money; wretched are the poor, for they do not create jobs".)

That would require the vox populi to be reasonable. & that's never going to happen. Not when the Tea Party's conception of Founding Father is Hitler crossed to Cromwell, but wearing a powdered wig & knee-breeches.

Don't forget that 18.4 cents of every gallon of gas you buy is for Federal fuel tax (state taxes extra).

Plus, state gas taxes. Taxes on sin (cigarettes/alcohol), which disproportionately hit the poor/middle-class. (I am kind of surprised cigars never got exempted from tobacco taxes. Then again, it's not just the country clubbers that smoke 'em; an untaxed cigar would mean an untaxed blunt, &, y'know...) Stadium excises for billionaire sports owners.

Black people are probably paying more taxes than the rest of us after they pay the alcohol tax on all those Colt 45's. If we could tax dat weed, we'd have a surplus.

I think this current crisis will become a major turning point in American history. People now realize that our political system is broken and needs dramatic repair, not through a third party, but through the active participation of sane, responsible Americans who have ignored politics in the past.

This has been the wish and dream of every fucking political science professor and editorial board member since time immemorial. Never gonna happen.

seems like we have a third party, the tea party, who is really f'ing things up. the republicans are so fractured they cant formulate a compromise position.

Wait a second there, big guy. The women's world cup soccer team clearly proved that it is.

I am negative and cynical by nature. It is very, very hard for me to not be in the same place as you, Fu. Come to think of it, I may be and am just in denial.

I dunno guys, I kind of feel like Louis C.K. - everything is amazing and nobody's happy.

I had a long drive this week to Garlando, and one completely remarkable thing is the lack of anger, and the lack of "pain" in this recession and in America. I quoted pain, because I think there is a lot, but there's no media sunshine on it, we refuse to acknowledge massive structural problems within our economy and society, and I think the social safety net feeds into that. There's not enough righteous anger anymore.

If Barry were really a Socialist he'd tell Reid to ole the Repubs, allow massive cuts or even outright disbanding of Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare, blame The Activist Congress, and watch the country burn in an attempt at a communist revolution or pitchforks and torches at Goldman HQ.

Because just like the bailouts and everything else, I promise you that a lot of people who just happen to know the right other people are printing money while everyone argues about Full Faith and Credit and whether McConnell and Boehner can keep their caucus in line/be ousted by the Rand Paul/Raul Labrador and Allen West crews.
