Well said, Kyle. My sentiments, exactly. What I think some of us fail to realize is that often times those perceived as assholes are actually trying to express their own unique brand of humor. Very, very rarely is anyone intentionally mean or hateful to someone else in these parts, except after the aforementioned misperception has taken place.

Take it from someone who derives upwards of 90% of his attempted humor from inappropriate sources, we're all just looking for a laugh, many times at your expense (referring to the general "you," not any one in specific). But we love you, just the same.

This wussified overexplanation has been provided thanks to a grant from The Chubb Group.

I guess that kinda explains why the criticism seems so out of place to me... I've found the place to be a breath of fresh air, for the most part. It hasn't done wonders for my productivity at work, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. And hey, 2 months in and I've already had a (brief as all get-out) Obner Hookup with the fabulous Mr. Chase.

Pretty much every time Chris has had a complaint I haven't understood what he was on about. Have a feeling it has more to do with off board things than on board ones. But since I don't actually know anyone on this board off the board I wouldn't know for sure.

This was a fascinating read. Opa gets the board going like no other - posting a comment about the lack of music related content - and then getting 7 pages of non-music content. Awesome.

And a lot of the old timers weren't that great anyway.

OPA, your right.... on a few counts.

1) while i though 'special needs' would cover more non-music related stuff, this forum seems to be eroding in musical value more and more.

2) i've never posted much in the last 2 years (i think) - which is ever since i can't access this from work (new job)

3) there's so many new people, i joined late, barely know people here and well most of the time i don't seem to have much to say.

4) i'm trying to contribute more.

5) i do miss many of the 'old schoolers'
(Poptodd / OPA / FT / Charli / Chase / Shiv / MarianFudge / Saved / TimmyJoe ECT ECT ECT ECT.........
i got used to the way things where, and i seem to know what to expect.......... there's just so many more people here.. i don't think we'll ever get that "community" vibe we had back in the day.

this is the worst thread ever. i almost wish i could rophy myself in order to forget the last 6 pages of the most boring shit ever. if you people want more posts about music, than post more about music, don't piss and moan every 5 minutes about why nobody posts about music. the point has been made ad nauseum.

I want an Official Obner list of Old Timers and Non Old Timers, so we know exactly who we're talking about here.

The Old Ones have returned to the stars from whence they came, and I for one will outwardly lament their departure while secretly hoping they never return.

It's probably pointless for me to even comment on this at this point. Especially since even though, I'd been posting on CMJ a long time, I never really posted a lot. I think some of you are just taking things a little to seriously. I read the threads here to try and find out about new music. 90% of the time stuff on here doesn't give me any new info. In part because there are so many other good places on the internet for music news and reviews. But I still read to see what y'all are listening to, because I'm always looking for more music. Even though, that's the purpose of coming to this board for me, I don't see anything wrong with people discussing other things. You can always ignore those threads if you want to.

While I still check the board 4 out of 7 days of the week, I have really cut-down on time spent here. Here are three reasons.

1. Don't have time except at night and on weekends when no one else is here, so I usually post short replies and don't really feel like I'm in the Obner loop anymore

2. I really only check the 1st two pages of the Rock/Pop forum, and if I don't see anything interesting, I move on. The topic subjects rarely catch my attention anymore. And since I don't feel "in the loop" I feel it unecessary to check most of the topics.

3.Lack of music talk. I used to come here to find out the latest and greatest record, but I've found that I've gone back to the old standby, magazines.

She writes about music, dates a musician and is a musician. I'm guessing she probably doesn't want to talk about music. Wait, wouldn't that mean she'd come here? I'm confusing myself.

I saw her in a pizza joint a couple of weeks ago. She seemed to be doing ok. Cool, calm and collected as ever.

There's a Lurker Mode? How would someone who is incapable of shutting up (oh, such as myself, maybe) take advantage of this cool invisibility shield? Do they screen applicants or can I just walk into Obner HQ and snatch a Lurk Shield off the equipment shelf?
